Tata Altroz

Tata Altroz 1.2L Turbo-Petrol Review - Team-BHP

The Tata Altroz 1.2L Turbo-Petrol will go on sale shortly.

Tata Altroz Pros:

• Turbo-petrol is vastly superior to the NA petrol. Altroz finally gets the petrol engine it deserves
• 1.2T offers good driveability & satisfactory performance

• Looks absolutely stunning! Solid build too
• Nice interior with good quality parts & adequate space
• Accommodating 345-litre boot is among the biggest of the segment
Mature on-road behaviour, including at highway speeds
• 5-star NCAP safety rating! Safety package includes dual airbags, CSC, rest break reminder etc.

• Enjoyable Harman 8-speaker ICE. One of the better audio systems in this segment
• Impressive kit (auto headlamps & wipers, cruise control, leatherette seats, adjustable armrest...)

Tata Altroz Cons:

• Not a hot hatch! Performance is fair, but not explosive like the Polo TSI. 0-100 in 11.9 seconds
• Max revs of merely 5,500 rpm! That's way too low for a petrol
• The Altroz turbo-petrol inexplicably makes 9 BHP & 30 Nm lesser than the Nexon!!!
• No automatic gearbox option (as yet) in a market that loves its ATs
• Suspension has a firm edge at low speeds (16" rim variants). Bad roads will bother you

• Service visit every 6 months / 7,500 km (1 year / 10,000 km is the norm today)
• Some missing features (auto-dimming IRVM, full size spare tyre on top trims, split-folding rear seat...)
• Tata's after-sales service quality is a hit or miss. Remains a gamble
• Concerns over niggles in a freshly-baked Tata product

Tata Altroz XE+ variant launched; XM discontinued - Team-BHP

Tata Motors has made some changes to the Altroz variant line-up. The XM variant has been replaced with a new XE+ trim.

The new XE+ variant has been positioned above the base XE trim. It comes equipped with features such as a Bluetooth Audio system, fast USB charger, keyless entry, manually adjustable ORVMs, headlamps with follow me home and find me functions and electric temperature control.

Compared to the XM variant, the new trim misses out on a rear parcel shelf and wheel caps. Having said that, the XM+ variant gets a pair of rear speakers as well.

The Altroz is available with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 85 BHP and 113 Nm as well as a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel unit that puts out 89 BHP and 200 Nm.

Both engines come paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The hatchback is also offered a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol motor that makes 108 BHP and 140 Nm.

Tata Altroz ex-showroom prices:

  • XE+ Petrol - Rs. 6.35 lakh
  • XE+ Diesel - Rs. 7.55 lakh

Tata Altroz automatic variant launch confirmed - Team-BHP

Tata Motors has confirmed that an automatic variant of the Altroz will be launched in the near future.

Reports suggest that Tata might offer a dual-clutch automatic transmission with the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. This engine produces 109 BHP and 140 Nm. At the moment, it is only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Altroz automatic will lock horns with the Hyundai i20 Turbo and the Volkswagen Polo. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki is also gearing up to launch the updated Baleno.

The Altroz also comes with a naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine, which makes 85 BHP and 113 Nm.

I'm sorry but service intervals are 7 500 km????
I presume that's because of the harsher & more extreme seasonal climatic conditions, airborne dust & pollution contamination in the air, and often dodgy fuel quality experienced in India that would require much shorter service intervals, compared to other countries... especially with regard to regularly changing the oil & oil filter, and also the air, fuel & cabin filters as well..

I suppose, however I find it hard to believe that other cars have similarly short service intervals - that being said I doubt many people will follow this service regime anyways.

Tata Altroz DCA 'Dual Clutch Auto' launched at Rs. 8.09 lakh - Team-BHP

Tata Motors has launched the Altroz DCA (Dual Clutch Automatic) in the Indian market. The hatchback is available in seven variants - XMA+, XTA, XZA, XZA (O), XZA+, XTA Dark and XZA+ Dark, with prices starting at Rs. 8.09 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Altroz Automatic is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 85 BHP and 113 Nm. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The dual-clutch unit in the Altroz is said to use 35% fewer components than a conventional DCT. It has a single layshaft and 13 gears with a Planetary Gear System instead of 20 gears. While dry clutches packed together may overheat, the DCA uses wet clutches.

The Altroz DCA comes with Auto Park Lock, which automatically engages and prevents the vehicle from moving if the driver has forgotten to put the car in P mode and is leaving the car. The system monitors the seatbelt and pedal positions.

The Altroz DCA is available in six colour options - Opera Blue (New), Downtown Red, Avenue White, Arcade Grey, Harbour Blue and Cosmo Dark.

2022 Tata Altroz DCA Review - Team-BHP

Tata Altroz DCA Pros

• A smooth dual-clutch AT in a segment full of slow & jerky AMTs
• We find the Altroz DCA to be well-priced for what it offers
• Looks absolutely stunning! Solid build too
• Nice interior with good quality parts & adequate space
• Accommodating 345-litre boot is among the biggest in the segment
• Mature on-road behaviour, including at highway speeds. Expressway stability is exceptional
• 5-star NCAP safety rating! Safety package includes dual airbags, CSC, break reminder etc.
• Enjoyable Harman 6-speaker ICE. One of the better systems in this segment
• Impressive kit (auto park lock, auto headlamps & wipers, cruise control, ambient lighting, adjustable armrest...)
• Factory-fitted customisation packs available

Tata Altroz DCA Cons

• The long-term reliability of dual-clutch ATs has generally been poor in India
• 1.2L NA motor is weak & noisy. Better in the city than the highway. Don't expect a "Polo TSI DSG" experience at all
• DCA isn't offered on the 1.2L turbo-petrol or 1.5L diesel variants. Period

• 118 BHP Hyundai i20 turbo-petrol DCT is noticeably faster & offers superior performance
• Mature suspension does have a firm edge at low speeds (16" rim variants)
• Service visit every 6 months / 7,500 km (1 year / 10,000 km is the norm today)
• Some missing features (Eco & Sport modes, paddle shifters, idling start / stop, auto-dimming IRVM, thinner spare tyre on top trims, split-folding rear seat...)
• Tata's after-sales service quality is a hit or miss. Remains a gamble

Tata Racer

Tata Motors also displayed a 'Racer' version of its Altroz premium hatchback, featuring plenty of sporty add-ons and a new paint scheme.

While Tata hasn't revealed any specifications yet, the company did mention that two new direct-injection petrol engines are being readied for unveil (1.2L & 1.5L). This hopefully translates to the Racer trim of the Altroz being more than just a sticker job.

The Altroz Racer gets a sporty Red exterior with a Black bonnet & roof, along with dual racing stripes.

There is also a roof-integrated spoiler finished in Black

Tata launches E20-compliant Tiago, Punch, Altroz & Nexon - Team-BHP

Tata Motors has launched its BS6 Phase II range of passenger vehicles, featuring RDE and E20-compliant petrol, diesel and CNG powertrains.

Tata Motors claims that the upgrades made to the engines have not only helped lower emissions but have also improved the low-end drivability of the Altroz and Punch. They also get Idle Stop Start as standard across all variants.

The Altroz and Nexon are available with upgraded Revotorq diesel engines that are said to be more responsive. Tata claims the Nexon’s 1.5-litre diesel has been retuned for better performance.

The carmaker has also been working on the Tiago and Tigor. Both cars are said to benefit from lower NVH and now come equipped with TPMS.

Furthermore, Tata Motors has increased its standard warranty from 2 years / 75,000 km to 3 years / 100,000 km.

2023 Tata Altroz CNG Review - Team-BHP

Tata Altroz CNG Pros

• A well-calibrated CNG system that’s comfortable to drive
• A CNG car with factory-backing, factory warranty & OEM standards of safety / quality
• Mature on-road behaviour, including at highway speeds despite the added weight
• 210 litres of usable boot space even with the CNG tanks
• CNG benefits like cheap running costs and lower CO2 emissions
• Looks absolutely stunning! Solid build too
• Nice interior with good quality parts & adequate space
• City friendly nature: light controls, agreeable ergonomics & good driveability (in CNG too)

• Enjoyable Harman 8-speaker ICE. One of the better systems in this segment
• Impressive kit (voice assisted sunroof, wireless charger, auto headlamps & wipers, air purifier, ambient lighting...)
• 5-star NCAP safety rating is commendable

Tata Altroz CNG Cons

• Reduced power output is evident on the highway. CNG mode has lesser top-end performance
• Many Indian cities & towns don’t have CNG pumps. Queue for CNG can be long in metro cities
• Higher maintenance costs & upkeep (overall) in comparison with regular petrol variant
• Automatic transmission unavailable with the CNG kit
• Focus on CNG driveability means that the FE numbers won’t be as high as the competitors
• Instrument cluster from Tiago/Tigor CNG doesn’t feel premium
• Mature suspension does have a firm edge at low speeds (16" rim variants)
• Fire extinguisher is not easily accessible
• Some missing features (cruise control, auto-dimming IRVM, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, thinner spare tyre on top trims, split-folding rear seat...)
• All passengers need to get out of the vehicle while refilling CNG
• Tata's after-sales service quality is a hit or miss. Remains a gamble
