Bloody useless Telkom brain dead monkey brains. They tell me that if you can get it, you will have it, you cannot phone them and ask them to activate it. Yet my exchange can handle 10 mb and my stats say I can and also have turned on ADSL2 and nothing

They told me that BS too a month or so ago. So phone again.

Reloaded firmware and get these stats on ADSL 2 -
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 41.5 db 20.0 db
Noise Margin 22.8 db 14.0 db

Are these any good? Where is a site to check what this can handle?

Probably cannot support more users due to ports being full.
You're right.
Called 0800375375 and
They said - Sorry sir but what are you getting now.
I said - 4mbps
They said - Well sir then that's what the exchange is able to support
I said - but the ADSL checker was just updated and said that I should get 10mbps.
They said - Oh. Let me check. Sir... they are busy planning the exchange upgrade.
I said - Interesting. I talked to someone in Aug-2010 about the impending exchange upgrade. When will it be implemented?
They said - Not sure sir. But I see planning started Aug-2010.

WTF!!!!! Idiots. Oh well... just more waiting for me.
... and for others out there... it's serving the 021-552-* range.
If you're on that... don't bother for now.

LOL! Ouch :p

Here's another one that might be more accurate regarding max possible line speed:
http://www.farina1.com/adsl/default.aspx

Hi,

My exchange has been upgraded yesterday. According to the speedtest I would be able to get 8 Mbit out of my line. Being with wazzup I got the following reply regarding the requested upgrade of the line:

As mentioned in our telephone conversation, the DSL Up to 4096/10016kbps service has 4 sub-profiles, which are used to stabilize customers' service that experience re-synchs (service interruptions) on their ADSL lines due to last mile distance, noise and attenuation. Therefore customers that experience problems on the service may be accommodated on any of the secondary profiles.

For more information on this you can visit.

What does this mean?

Possible, not possible maybe possible?

Thanks Guys

my only compalin though is that i lose my connection about 2 times a day, so i have to restart the modem..that didnt happen before on my normal 4mb line...

the speeds i get now make it worth it but if it gets worse i will go back to 4mb/s.

They put in a traffic light by my exchange and now I can (apparently) get 10mbps.

Leads me to believe that traffic lights require fast internet to work and thus the traffic lights that take a f***ing long time to change must be with MWeb. :erm:

Best advice when dealing with Telkom. I use the one at Century City and so far they've always sorted me out no problem.

lol on the adsl availability checker I get this message, doesn't make sense

ADSL Support : Your exchange support ADSL

Max speed supported by your exchange: 4096

Your exchange supports ADSL. Unfortunately but due to infrastructure related problems cannot offer an ADSL service.

Should you wish to register your details in order be contacted when the infrastructure issues are resolved, please register.

Well I think I'm lucky considering I don't have what it says my speed is lol

Maximum speed available in your area is 1Mbps
Your current product speed is : 4Mbps
INTERESTED IN A HIGHER DSL SPEED?
