Telkom 512Kbps ADSL speed upgrades begin

Now, not to be a party-pooper and rain on everyone's parade, but wouldn't it have been substantially wiser to upgrade 384 - 1Mb and 512 to 2.5Mb?

This whole < 1Mbps internet access in ZA thing is still pretty embarrassing :eek:

4 years waiting for a line install, 8 months waiting for wimax install... by the time i get it i will be dead and my grandchildren will be trying to get a line.

yes, and while they are happily upgrading my 4mb line has been running at 1 or 2 Mbps for the last month

Agreed. Sub 1mbs really needed to phase out of SA a couple of years ago

Of course telkom would choose 512kbps to upgrade, hardly anyone uses this product. It's only R70 cheaper than a 4Mbps line, so why would you get a 512kbps line when you can a 4Mbps for a few rand more?

The vast majority of ADSL subscribers are using 384kbps, and this is where the speed upgrade should be happening.

ISP charges are much more....
