yeah need to check out package prices for existing customers, also whether the landline can be converted to a wireless prepaid.

No FUP.
Comes with "free" router and installation.
Can be taken on month to month... but if you cancel before 24 months you have to pay back the pro-rated cost of the router+installation.

Pretty fair deal.

I can't answer for why your speed is still low, maybe call in to Telkom to let them explain. From 1 May for 3 months mine is higher automatically, no application needed, and I think someone in this thread also indicated their 10Mbps line is automatically running at 20Mbps.
 
They have called me and deal was concluded.

Router should be here next week and install should be easy as I have a line in the offce. They just need to activate it at the dslam again.

Should be able to cancel rain just in time.

This information is untrue.

Telkom Internet *never* applied a FUP based on Night-time usage, but the "static FUP" from early 2013 (when we moved to IPC) until late 2016 did throttle users during night-time if they exceeded their FUP (outside Night-time).

The original "hard FUP" levels from early 2015 were ~45GiB/Mbps (or 1800GiB) after which throttling of approx max(384k,speed/8) was applied 24x7.

From Dec 2016, the FUP values were ~45GB/Mbps for FUP level 1 and ~90GB/Mbps for FUP level 3 (at least when I left in 2017), with FUP level 1 being half normal speed, and FUP level 3 being max(384k,speed/8) outside NightSurfer time.

So, on 40Mbps, this would have been 20Mbps (between 19h00 and 21h00) after 1800GiB, 10Mbps (between 18h00 and 22h00) after 2700GiB, and then 5Mbps from 07h00 to 23h00 after 3600GiB.

It’s the Lite bullshit not the full fat deal.

If the FUP is really gone why still call it Lite? That means it’s not really gone or will be back later.

Apparently according to the local rep I can’t get 40MB anyway...even though my line stats say yes happily.

Might need to look at just “upgrading” to the 20Mb package for less money.

Or is Lite the new name for the package when it has no voice line?

They dropped FUP now, so hopefully stays like this lol
 
Telkom is excellent at being Vague when it comes to the costs involved (Line rental, Data costs and FUP). Particularly in this case, as to who the bundles actually apply to (VDSL or ADSL). So confusing when you recall they wanted to phase out copper, revitalisation is really the wrong term.

It also doesn't make sense that a customer can use their store website and purchase a internet plan which is identical to other internet plans yet it's more expensive, Like why is that option even there if there's better plans. It's like they don't care if the customer is making a mistake.

Don't even get me started on how badly labeled the UNLIMITEDhome or Home Unlimited Premium plans are, like is the Premium plan for Fibre only because that price is way cheaper and more value than the UnlimitedHome plan. This is what I mean. It's like taking shots in the dark until you have to phone them and enquire using a phone line that doesn't work which in this case, their new plan is very appealing because it gets rid of the phone and their unreliable phone network which somehow lets DSL work fine.

I wonder when Webafrica and Afrihost will have their offerings of this. LTE is absolute shite in this area and the wireless ISP's here can't help or have issues with packet loss. Desperately want to go wired again just not through Hellkom
