Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

I don't think there lies a better ISP for gaming than MWeb. After all, they state clearly gaming is given the biggest priority on their network.

With the Telkom account I have now, I'm getting an 11ping, compared to the 40 ping I was getting on Mweb. The strength of the Telkom accounts seems to be that they dont shape (from what I can tell). I download torrents at full line speed.

The other uncapped ISP accounts always seemed to have bad days every week or so, where for some reason things were slow or not loading. I havnt had that yet with the Telkom account. Its very consistent.

So a weird thing happened today. I went to telkom to sign up for a 4mb line. The guy told me not to do that now, and that I should instead wait one week. Since I had read online that Telkom is still planning a 4mb uncapped at consumer prices, I asked him if it had anything to do with uncapped.

He said that it was uncapped, and that he couldn't reveal more.

So next week sometime they are likely going to roll out some kind of 4mbps uncapped special, or at least uncapped bundle at a better price than the current one.

Found that post on newshost...

It's working fine but I've got it speed limited at the moment so Telkom can't accuse me of abusing it :)

I'm still hoping they can make the 1Mb accounts work properly on the fast lines before monthend.

Err.. you are not meant to get full line speed on a 4mbit line with a 1mbit account.

@Nookie when i had mweb it was terrible for gaming, my current ping in wow with telkom is just over 200, around 210-220.

@heretic angel, no offence but that person you spoke to most likely knows nothing. Its still going to be some time before we see home 4mbit uncapped, from an advertising perspective it would have been more beneficial to launch it at the expo

did not speak to anyone, was just post i found on a forum , but i cant link it as newshost is invite only , so most people wont be able to read the post.

Err ... Linux > Transmission (bittorrent client)>Temporary Speed limits> 105kbs down 50kps up otherwise it's "cojones to the wall" speed :)

You forget I only use this account at night for downloading, currently running at full speed on Telkom 16GB account.

I never forgot i just never bothered to recall as it means very little to me. Not entirely sure what you're saying because you still forget to mention the speeds you getting on your 1mbit account, but if you are getting full speeds like i thought i was with my 1mbit until it turned out to be the 4mbit account. Anyways

@hereticangel - quote it from the awesome "invite" only site. But i still think its hogwash.

Telkom said themselves that they will soon release residential uncapped offerings.

I'm looking for leave IS. What's the verdict on Telkom's 384k option for someone who does around 30gb/pm over NNTP and HTTP?

The problem with signing up with Telkom is that one perpetuate the problem. We have ISP's trying hard to change the landscape and then Telkom is there fighting LLU and overcharging for IPC etc. The more people that sign up for Telkom as the ISP make Telkom just stronger. The ISP's should be supported to bring more change to the market

I agree. By supporting them, you will approve of what they are charging, then why should they change? If people still throw their money at them, they have no reason to improve. You perhaps do not have a choice with the ADSL line, but you definitely have a choice with your bandwidth. Vote with your Wallet!

Anyone on the 1mbps Telkom uncapped have experiences to share? I'm curious to find out how these accounts stack up to Mweb or OW Gold for torrents, news servers,Youtube and general browsing.

Mmmmm, judging by the lack of feedback -- mainly the lack of bitching -- I gauge Telkom must be offering a decent product. Or least one not significantly worse than IS. Ag let me go sign up and see for myself...

Waiting for Monday, then I'll convert my current account with Telkom, they tell me, least billing hassles that way ... , we'll see what transpires.

Awfully quiet here in the Telkom camp, seems like nobody has Telkom uncapped……..

Read the whole thread....

Some of us are in our cancellation month with other ISP's (that funny 30 day notice period thingey, you know?) and will be switching over on 1 November. There are already users that have the uncapped package and who have shared their positive experiences with us.

1mb uncapped on 4Mb lines update.

As promised an update on the 1mb uncapped on 4Mb lines debate .

Telkom has finally got it working :D

Since last night my Telkom 1Mb uncapped account now runs at 1Mbs instead of flat out at 6Mbs. Just tested it at 1.08Mbs down 0.50Mbs up using the MyBB speedtest.

The myth that the uncapped account speed must match your line speed is now disproved.
