Okay i went a little haywire with the downloads this month and i am pretty sure that i am going to be charged a hell of alot of money for exceeding my 30GB free local.

I used 94.6477 GB Local internet (this happened cause i left my house for a week and telkom decided i can have a fst connection to the news servers), i have to pay for 64GB which is alot.

My question has anyone had the luck of avoiding going over local? I know people have gotten away from it but that was for like 3-10GBs over.

Secondly, is it fair for telkom to charge R25,55 per additional GB? The reason being if you buy local caps it costs R130 for 30GBs, which equates to about R4,33 a Gb of local.

Note: I accept the fact that i have exceed the allocations provided and i am going to have to pay, but WTF things need to change in this country.
 
i received a lovely R2599 bill from telkom this month for overusage on local bandwidth, you get a additional statement from telkom business, lolz, scared the **** outa me lolz, wonder will they suspend my line or just internet account with them till i pay yikes
 
ZAP, u need to differentiate between IS bandwidth and SAIX bandwidth. the local caps offered by mweb and telkom run on the saix network. the cheaper caps (such as 30gb for R130) are run on IS bandwidth. there are various differences between SAIX and IS such as different news servers. SAIX news is much faster than IS news. there are reasons to choose either/or, just make sure u know the differences between them :)

I do understad that there is a difference between the two, i am just saying i could just get 2 30GB accounts from IS and use that instead of being hammered by the telkom R25, 55 per GB. Or dont it work that way?
 
I think telkom should have a fixed monthly rate like everyone else overseas with no bandwidth constraints...
But in the past Local bandwidth was 100% free, like a year ago...
And
if they still want to be stuck up and greedy...
They should separate Local and International monitoring in separate cataegories.. instead of combining them in the 1 GB or 3GB for the Do1 and Do3 etc..
Since I get a new month of bandwidth will be saying goodbye to These forums for a while until my next cap..
Since i dont want unecessary Local usage to subtract the International usage of the monthly alocated 1GB i get on my Do1 .broadband.
every bit of that bandwidth counts for me especialy when getting over 300 (perhaps more) deviantart messages, 100+ facebook messages and then +- 200 to 100 emails each in my 3 email accounts which use Intnternational bandwidth as 2 are Yahoo, and one is a Gmail. What is anoying is when i go out of my way to borrow a freind's pC just to state "I am sorry my bandwidth is used, please send me emails at [email protected] because i cannot reply since here in South Africa the internet is bandwidth controlled and you pay per data bit/byte etc totalling towards a gigabyte.. when thats finnished its cutt-off, bye bye planet earth.. they dont understand this since there ISPs provide a monthly fee of internet access and non of this bandwidth humbug..sometimes its quite hard to explain to a freind on the otherside of the planet who just got there computer(very much a newbie to the machine) got internet at a fixed monthly rate, connected to facebook.. and doesnt know about measuring data.

Why don't you set up routing tables or use Route Sentry to allocate local bandwidth to a local only account? That way you can still visit local web sites without using blended bandwidth. Of course you will need to purchase some local bandwidth to use but that is much cheaper than international.

Thank you never heard of routing tabels or Route Sentry.
So which means I would have to use two separate ISP accounts ?

I have the same problem although not so bad as 65gigz.I have passed mine by around 10gigz.Hope they don't charge you:)

I know they give you a little leg room, going over a few gbs not a problem. I would hope you land up on the other side of the fence but i am certain i am going to be charged. Just wish bandwidth was cheaper so i didnt have to worry to fork out the amount i have to.

Yeah that phrase stuck in my head for a while. :o

I really don't like Idols at all, or this kind of show.
But I really got hooked on this show, absolutely incredible.

I have a friend who got a high bill from Telkom, he never paid it.
That was like a year ago... nothing happened.

I also got a huge bill from them, I paid it though.
 
I find its generally a good policy to pay bills...and then:

You get a random sms from Telkom informing you that you have an unpaid amount on a telephone number you had in your previous home, which you specifically requested to be MOVED. Almost a year later that lucky number is well into the R7000 mark. I went through 3 consultants, all of which dead set on me paying this amount or having my current line suspended. Still having the reference number from my call request, I gave it to them. I then proceeded with much pleasure to listen to the stunned realization that they had screwed themselves, then I told them that they can take the amount out of their own petty cash, and have never heard anything further.

Hi Guys

Hang onto your wallets with both hands. You don't have to pay these bills. I got legal advice that I will share with you.

I wrote an email to Mweb stating that I was not in a position to pay more than my R199 per month on my account but I do want to use everything I have paid for. See this thread. If you don't get a satisfactory reply send a registered letter.

Neither Mweb, nor Telkom give you tools to adequately and conveniently use the product you are paying for and the small claims court is likely to agree. With Mweb you pay for 1GB blended and 10GB local BUT you cannot monitor yourself accurately so that you can self disconnect when you reach the end of your bandwidth. The Mweb usage monitor page is not real-time and can be hours behind. In addition you cannot comfortably monitor that page continuously while you are trying to use the internet.

I got this reply and all you other Mweb customers are welcome to use it as your defence:

The court will probably find that the ISP has unfairly shifted the risk and inconvenience onto the customer because you cannot protect yourself against extra charges. All we need is a little test case in the Small Claims Court. There are plenty of Leagal Eagles with telecoms experience on this forum who could help you prep for your case if you had the 'cahones' to take on Telkom.

More often than not you get the service you put up with, you need to let them know it is not acceptable. As our hero Julius says, "It is time for change, I deemund it." (ibid Nando's Ad)
