TelkomInternet - Capped Users for May 2007

Maybe telkom are doing this for a month or two, 20%+ customers leave and they get more bandwidth for them selves.. lol

Me 2 - this month capped at 3.2 on 3 gig account
I also move to another provider next month
My friend in Germany uses an average of 50 gigs for 200 Rand including all Phonecalls all over Germany.

Telkom sucks!

wow, I'm really confused at all you ungrateful sods
you, like the rest of us are paying for a specific amount of gb, and you now complain because you aren't getting those extra 20 - 30 gb that you previously weren't paying for? The rest of us users who have been using ISP's other than Telkom Internet have been living in this world for quite some time now.

With regard to the message posted by the Telkom Internet rep that 3 gb accounts will seize at 6gb this month, it could very well be a problem on Telkom Internet's side.

You guys continue to bitch on this forum and complain about a mere concept called economics, and that is... Telkom is a monopoly and they therefore charge the maximum price that they can. Telkom Internet also seems to be transforming into a monopolistic organisation based on these special deals, shared capping pools and extra bandwidth and the recent introduction of the Do Broadband packages which other ISP's don't seem to have access to. They're building barriers to entry which in essence, are preventing other ISP's from competing or making even an adequate profit margin.

As much as I hate the idea of Telkom being a monopoly, and hate the idea that Telkom Internet have special treatment, that doesn't change the concept that you get what you pay for. If you want 20 gb, pay for a 20 gb account or dig deep into your wallet for uncapped; but don't complain because you aren't getting subsidised bandwidth anymore.

I just dont like the fact that being told that you are going to get 6gigs and then gettin cut off at 3..

The only reason why i am with telkom is because i could spend a little less money for a little more.. And now that is taken a way, so i will move..

ye, and I'm sure you guys who have been capped at 3 gb are feeling the same, but it could be a problem on Telkom Internet's side. bonobo_slr has even offered to help by looking into why some users have been capped 3 gb. He also stated that if you feel you have been capped unfairly, you can private message him your username. I would feel lucky that only a limited group of users (MyADSL) have the luxory of dealing 1 on 1 with a Telkom Internet rep, rather than going through the infamous call center.

Now if we could only get a Telkom rep on these forums *hint*, bonobo_slr, can't u take a walk across the hall to your "separate entity" and speak to the big guns to try and organise someone :)

zamrg I would hardly commend a business that has been helped along by its major shareholder, government, in keeping barriers to entry.

I have to agree with Freaksta on one issue, the expectation caused by the telkom rep that if you a 3GB account you would be capped at 6GB. That played a role in my usage of my bandwidth this month. Though to be fair, I wasn't totally surprised when I was seemingly cut off at 3GB.

jongi, I didn't mean to give the wrong perception here, I am in no way commending their business practise, I'm merely stating that they follow the norm of a monopoly.

I can understand the frustration on yours and many others sides about being capped at 3gb when told 6gb, and I hope that the rep can clear this up with the users here.

cool zamrg. My perception about bandwidth is that if bandwidth was cheap and say 30GB accounts were the standard, even the "abusers" would stop being abusers. I think that if bandwidth was cheap you wouldn't even mind not using half of it. But when it's expensive you make sure the last drop is milked and then some if possible.

very true

IT appears that my first TelkomInternet account has been capped at:

Total usage for May : 3.0676 GB

/wave to TelkomInternet hello ISDSL (SAIX WebAfrica Unshaped Prepaid for WoW :D)

bonobo_sir if you know what is happening, and you can assist us... your info would be most welcomed.

It's the beginning of the month. How could you guys have used that much already? :D

But seriously, is everyone being capped at their service threshold?

PM me your username and I will see why you were capped. If you have a 3Gb account this month, you would have been capped at 6Gb.

Yes, your stance is clearly the answer to the telecommunitcations problems in this country: bend over and take it.

How could we have been so stupid as to want to try and effect some sort of positive change?

Brilliantly put haha... And here I was about to write an essay based solely on "WTF?"

I am in no way agreeing with how Telkom operates, and I too am paying out of my ass for a simple broadband package. You ridicule me just because I have an opposing view on the "get what you pay for" concept, and based on that you generalise and tell me "bend over and take it". You clearly have a great immature insight in how the world operates, fool.

The forum is about people, both pro and against the local broadband situation who are here to express their views. I too am against this monopolistic situation, however just because I oppose one of your mindless views, you bring me down to a Telkom lover?

How is your comment brilliantly put? You seem to be so hooked in to the Telkom bashing that you can't separate an legitimate operation from an illegitimate one. Do you not see this by now, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, regardless of how much we actually pay for broadband here, you're paying for 3gb, so stop bitching because you can't leech 30gb anymore.

Wow, someone has some bent up tension there.

I think that the idea behind all this is more to the point of paying a large amount of money and getting bugger all out of it than anything else.

And yes, the reason why most people are/were with Telkom was because of their soft-capping policy, again, something we were/are all paying for. So yeah, we want our money's worth or we can sod off to ISPs like OpenWeb which have MUCH better deals for a bit cheaper.

So, I believe we do have the right, as well as a legitimate reason for "bitching" about their apparent new policy - if it is so - which is still being decided.

And as for "taking it up the butt" I'm pretty sure that's accurate, considering a lot of people don't know better and so don't mind. What you can't see can't hurt you, right? ;) Unfortunately (for Telkom) people have pretty much noticed the rather large dent Telkom's been putting in their pocket.
