Waited 3 weeks and heard nothing from telkom. Dead line voice&adsl. TelkomZA escalated numerous times but apparently it fell on death ears. Called one of these numbers below in the excel sheets (under Operation managers per region), and technician came out same day after hours and fixed it.

So IMO if you have waited long enough I'd say a week+ you should definitely try going that route. It might just get it sorted. Just phone anyone on that list lol, and try sounding desperate on the line    The things we do just to get working dsl in this country... :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

Why should that be necessary though? Surely when you report a fault and get a reference number, they should resolve it same time via that official channel?

We've just learned that Afrihost had to pay a fine for not delivering services as per advertisements -- So how come is Telkom allowed to stay off the hook (pun intended) when their service clearly stinks? Everyone knows there is a major problem at the moment with Telkom's customer service - whether that be due to a shortage of staff or not, this is not the consumer's problem. Why is nothing being done about it? What can we do about it, as disgruntled end consumers? It's not right that one company must pay a fine for poor service, yet a competitor of that company whose service is 100x worse can get away with it. It's high time something gets done about Telkom's slack response to fault reports.

We have many organizations and laws which are allegedly supposed to protect the end consumer from these types of experiences. The National Consumer Commission, The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa, The Consumer Tribunal Court, The Small Claims Court, The Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa, and the The Internet Service Providers' Association, are a few such organizations, part of whose purpose is striving to uphold the standards of service we should be receiving and ensuring that when such companies go out of line in this regard, that proper regulation on the matter is enforced. What is the point in all of these protective entities if they are seemingly having no effect? Why do they ignore our complaints about Telkom?

Nothing gets done about my Telkom faults until I call a techie on his personal number and promise him a R150 reward to fix my line. Is that acceptable ? Yes ISPA, I'm looking at you. Why the bias? What about this massive elephant in the room called Telkom who you're pretending not to notice?. I actually think it's pathetic that you would even have the audacity to target a smaller player like Afrihost while Telkom are allowed to persist with their unlawful and discriminatory shenanigans for yet another day. If I were Afrihost I would refuse to pay their fine until Telkom is held accountable for their own mess as well. It is only fair, right ?

AfriMan feel free to PM me and I will share my open Telkom fault reference number which, according to the status report, remains to be attended to for over 2 weeks now. I will also link you to my hellopeter complaints on the matter, also opened 2 weeks ago, which were issued reference numbers AS WELL AS a promise to get back to me - more promises which they have failed to honor as well. But Telkom gets off scott free? You be the judge

Nah dont agree with that. Afrihost **** the bed for months on end, they deserve to be punished.
Especially for their misdirection blaming your line your exchange your router your cat and green light status when they knew the network was fundamentally ****ed. Pathetic dishonesty.
Just because Telkom does the same or even worse doesnt mean Afri should escape punishment.

Telkom have been ****ing the bed for decades. People have become accustomed/numbed to it and are now willing to accept it, that's the difference. NOTHING should justify a complaint like "Waited 3 weeks and heard nothing from telkom. Dead line voice&adsl. TelkomZA escalated numerous times but apparently it fell on death ears. Called one of these numbers below in the excel sheets (under Operation managers per region), and technician came out same day after hours and fixed it." in Telkom's favour. They are equally as guitly, and as such should be fined as well. If there is anything you should not be in agreement with, it is this unfair treatment

But you got to do what you got to do
So should ICASA/ISPA/ASASA/NCC, right ? But are they? I think the Afrihost case proves that they are ignoring Telkom completely and as a consumer I have a massive problem with this

Look I'm not versed in all the regulatory and legal framework governing Telkom provided services but sure I'm in agreement that something definitely needs to be done. But I have neither the time money nor expertise to pursue legal action. Someone should though, but honestly doubt that will fix anything. You can't fine an incompetent & nonfunctioning company into competency.

Neither do I, hence why these entities as quoted should be doing this on our behalf. That's what they were institutionalized for after all, right?

But you can hold them to their promises to do something about it:

http://mybroadband.co.za/news/telecoms/141474-telkom-to-launch-telkom-community.html

I'm waiting very patiently for this to materialize... Telkom have openly admitted that their service levels at the moment are inadequate. If they don't act accordingly, I think we'll have a good case against them for these violations. The clock is ticking Telkom, this simply Can't go on indefinitely.

Unreliable old telephone infrastructure is falling to pieces every time there is a storm resulting in Telkom getting inundated with millions of faults while having an inadequate number of technicians to address to them. It's unsustainable. Fibre would fix a lot of these issues...

@XL1000, contact their team on social media or PM here on MyBB. They are much more on the ball. They even look at queries at 1am to get the ball rolling... Crazy!!!

Thanks, Charl has been helping but Technical side disappoints again.

Afternoon Charl

So it is with much dismay that I must report constant outages all afternoon again.
I am so so tired of the crappy line from Telkom I pay dearly for.
Two three days of joy just to be frustrated again.

Can we get this sorted or would you suggest I lay an official complaint with the Governing Body of ISP and or the Consumer Council?

You have been great, alas, Telkom is hell again.

Regards,

XL1000

PS sent using Vodacom Cell...

Hi. I was told Telkom a technician is scheduled to come perform a line transfer at my house today. I took the day off work especially to make sure I am available to let them in etc. However, they have not come yet and have not even contacted me. Is there any way I could get in contact with the technician scheduled to perform my transfer so that I can find out when he/she will be coming?
