All of this is good to know but WHEN and how MUCH is still not answered...

I think this is F_____G pathetic.

Here you have one of the greatest phones the world has ever seen and you hide the launch date like a champ.

WTF Vodacom? Get rid of your marketing group because you guys clearly dont get the word "HYPE"

I agree with you. A bunch of morons!!!

Ah contraier Monfreir,
You do realise that by them not telling you that you want to know even more.
Its like when Nokia releases a new model and witholds a certain level of stock to increase demand for it.

What I dont get is all the iPhone hype, I have an N95-8GB and it does everything the iphone does, but has been available for months already....

and like was stated in the other thread relating to the iPhone....

Maybe Vodacom are not saying anything because they actually don't have any firm figures yet because they are still negotiating with Apple.

I love how people will just instantly blame a company for something like this, without necessarily understanding all the intricacies involved in a deal like this. Its not like walking into a shop and saying I want that and signing the contract...

Then why does Vodascum not just tell us WTF they are doing? Why not release a press report, I am sure they can afford it. Saying nothing means they are up to something, IMHO

LOL... the nokia n 95 looks like a Nokia 3310 compared to the iphone... it might have all the things the iPhone does but it misses one vital aspect...wait for it...

TOUCHSCREEN...

that and the whole apps support...

Sorry bro but you just won't get it until you have owned a iPhone. I had both and the iPhone whips the ass of Nokia all the way till Sunday

I have said this before here, but was called an idiot for saying it. I agree with ToxicBunny above.
I am pretty certain that Vodacom has no clue when the iPhone will be coming out in South Africa, you can be sure that when they do they will have the Sunday papers plastered with advertising for it.
The day Apple decides to release the iPhone to the remainder of the countries on the list, will be the day Vodacom gets a call, sure, they know its coming some time, but they can only guess right now.

Apple stated in its latest Quaterly earnings press meeting that a further 22 countries on the list will be getting the iPhone on the 22nd of August. It did not say which countries they were. So now, its either the 22 of August or after that. And if you take into account that 22 is less than half of the countries left on the list, it could happen that we are say, #24 of Apples priority list. I hope not.

marine1 : in regards to VC not putting out a press release, considering they're very probably still in the middle of negotiations with Apple about the iPhone, a press release giving ANY kind of information would be stupid and put VC on the back foot in terms of the negotiations with Apple, and could possibly even see Apple walk away from the deal.

Clearly thousands of people are wanting to buy the phone. Vodacom should release a statement instead of this rubbish standard e mail that doesnt explain what the hold up is. If Vodacom said, hey people we are still in negotiations, Apple would not mind. Just remember Vodacom have said they are testing the device so this rubbish about negotiating does not fly with me.

I agree with marine1. Vodacom must just communicate better. Or just tell the truth?

There is hardly enough stock left over for a SA 3G launch, Vodacom has to wait until they can secure stock but Vodafone will be launching it remember not Vodacom, we will probably get it the same time as India.

lol why are you guys so impatient?
Even Vodafone India is quiet, it's not possible to make definite promises yet.

Ok then but if your current phone is fine just wait a little longer Apple needs to fix a few more bugs with the next firmware update I'm sure so there is no rush yet.

Thank you for your e-mail to Vodacom.

Please be advised that we have not received the handset for testing yet and do not have an estimated date as to when the the handset will be launched.

Should you have any further queries, please contact us via e-mail at customercare@vodacom.co.za.

I'm not surprised really, Apple has reserved iPhones for it's iTunes Music store markets. we are just a potential market with a restricted App store so Apple will cater for us later, best to blame Apple not Vodacom for the uncertainty :D

We've seen the article already, and it does have some flaws in it...

Biggest one being that Vodacom are taking orders for the iPhone, and they're not... they're allowing you to pre-order, which is very different and is no guarantee of getting one.
