The iPhone is different and requires you to "think different"

No MMS = use email :)
...MMS is so 90's

If Mxit for the iPhone is released and approved by the AppStore you'll be having a laugh.

Google talk is available for the iphone. You can use that to connect to your friends on mxit.
For me multitasking is the biggest issue. But I'll survive without it.

on Business topup. upgrade available in 2 months. I hope there is some sort of deal to get it for +/- R4000

It is a fashion statement to have one, and if you dont, well
Yeh..that's the crux of the matter isn't it? No matter what anyone says, some just want to say they got it first, and think it will make them "cool"
Sorry..I got over that years ago. I don't buy the latest fashions and I don't buy a phone to be "cool"
I also don't want a phone that requires me to purchase extra apps to provide basic functions (video etc etc) and I already have an iPod, so I am not desperate for music functions.
I may get an iPhone, and I may not. We'll firstly see how "Vodaphoned" they manage to screw it up, and what the price does.
My point was...don't kill yourself to get one. If you aren't cool...a phone isn't gonna get you laid any faster.
I have a feeling the clever ones are the ones who wait and take their time, and choose a decent package later instead of the crazy mob mentality making you take whatever they offer you tonight with little thought.
Ah well..good luck anyways. I'll be asleep. :p

I have the iPhone 2G, I don't feel the need to get the 3G tomorrow I'll skip this model since I dont need 3G and GPS on my phone...yet.

I'm still interested in the iPhone release though since it's the gadget I bought because I liked it not because it's a fashion statement, hyped or wanting to be "cool", I never owned an iPod before and very happy about this because it would have been useless to me.

Ye it has a few things missin. Like MMS and Mxit. But hey dude, its an Apple. Ask anyone, would you rather have a iPod or JNC Mp3 playa? Im sure you know what they would choose. It is a fashion statement to have one, and if you dont, well, im sorry to say no matter what your phone dose that the iPhone dosnt, The iPhone still overall kicks its ass.

First of let me state up front that the hype does nothing for me.

Now that I have that out the way I find your analogy interesting iPhoneFan as in my eyes it actually argues for us not to get iPhones!! We all know Apple do music players, and they do them well, hence the immediate choice of iPod over JNC. But what do Apple know about phones? Surely one would choose a Nokia, much better track record and experience, over Apple any day?

If Apple brought out an iCar would you immediately choose that over a BMW or Mercedes even if it were much more expensive with less features? All marketing I tell you... and all the suckers fall for it! :)

I would usualy agree with you, but Apple has more than proven itself in the phone market, infact it went from having nothing to do with the phone market, to being the absolute leader with the release of ONE phone. Every cellphone manufacturer is still trying to catch up: LG, Samsung, Nokia, HTC, most of them have gotten nowhere close to the ease of use and pure functionality of the iPhone.
What every phone review comes down to now-a-days is: how does it rack up to the iPhone, and sometimes its; close but no cigar (HTC), but most of the time, its; nice try, but apple whips a33 (Samsung).

I am not buying an iphone for its 'fashion' statement, personaly i think the industrial design is a bit too safe compared to Apples normal designs. I am buying it because it is a landmark digital device that has already changed the landscape of mobile phones for the future.

Hmmm I want an alfa romeo.
*Is it reliable? No
*Value for money? No (in the toyota sense of value for money - get value from driving an alfa it yes)
*Is it the best manufacturer? No

its the same feeling with the iphone. I would rather have the alfa :)

And sticking with the status quo does not make you a sucker? I have no regrets about choosing iPhone, it keeps me entertained and satisfied since I received it nearly a year ago.

It's the Bugatti Veyron of Mobile phones using your analogy.

Spot on, my sentiments exactly.

Ha ha I suppose you can expect the responses I got in a iPhone fan boys thread! :)

I have read much on the internet and am yet to see why the iPhone is so cutting edge. I also spend a lot of time on gsmarena and am yet to read any review which does a comparison to the iPhone. Perhaps I am not hanging out in the right places?
