The Official 3G Iphone Thread

So how is Vodacom responsible for Apple not announcing something?

Was thinking exactly the same thing, just decided to shut up... until someone else said it first. :o

Its quite interesting how this thread is basically on persons online shop, whereas anyone advertising anything on the rest of the forum will immediately be asked to take it to the classifieds.
It matters not to me one way or the other but calling this "The Official 3G Iphone Thread" is slightly misleading given that there is a thread far better suited to that name, ie: the tips/tricks/apps thread.

?

Please go hate somewhere else.

The iPhone 3G isn't officially out yet so this thread is about when it will come out and then after it comes out ppl can leave their comments here and discuss things regarding the iPhone 3G.

And I am not advertising here really. I mentioned that I do have but I still stick to the classifieds section.

And regarding my "thanks Vodacom" statement.

Rumor has it that Vodacom should have launched it already but they are behind schedule due to silly mistakes made by them. This in turn leads vodafone to put pressure on vodacom, and this in turn leads Apple to put pressure on vodafone... which gets to the point that Steve Jobs can't announce more countries because ALL of the selected areas have to be ready before he can mention the release for a certain sector.

So rumours are enough evidence to project your hate at Vodacom

They have been launching the iPhone all over the world as agreements and other issues have been sorted out. Why would this now suddenly change with the launch in SA? All the other phones (non Apple) have been hitting the market in a timely fashion, so what is the common denominator? Apple.

Couldn't agree more. It's gotten to the stage where there're certain posts I just overlook.

Actually I will change the rumor into sold source. My GF's dad owns a vodashop in Port Elizabeth and he heard from the higher ups that there has been delays.

South Africa is going to be the biggest market in Africa for Apple. If they aren't ready then Apple won't launch other countries associated with our sector.

Believe the above or not... all I know is that Apple has put pressure on Vodafone and Vodafone on Vodacom because of this.

Rendier. As long as you keep coming down on the price you are welcome to stay. Will buy when you hit R 6500

As soon as the iPhone is launched in ALL the countries they mentioned then prices will drop. The USA sellers are charging an arm and a leg because they know overseas buyers can only get it from them.

I can guarantee you that Im making R400 - R600 profit per phone, depending on what customs hits me with.

As soon as the USA sellers have competition from elsewhere you can expect to get the phone around R5000 from me. When? Well that I can't tell you because I don't know. All I know though is that I will beat Vodacom's price after you add up the upfront charge and monthly subscription charges over a 2 year contract.

I will see if ppl are still interested to buy from me once it's in the country. The price will gradually drop for now or until it's available elsewhere but for now I can only offer it at R7500, which by the way is R500 cheaper than my previous shipment 2 weeks ago. This indicates that im not here to rip ppl off. If I get it cheaper then I sell for a cheaper price. R400 - R600 per phone is worth my while and anything more than that will be immoral in my book.

Rendier. My username is Wag because I patiently wag vir die okken Iphone. My contract just expire and I am one of those fools that can't wait. Got myself a E90 communicator, big mistake, so now I have to buy cash if they launch the Iphone.

You were the one who knee-jerked with the "Please go hate somewhere else". How is that not taking offence?

The Vodashops know nothing IMO. They all have conflicting stories and their own ideas about what is going on. Every shop I have walked into has given me a different date.

I can't see how SA is holding anything up. Of the 10 countries Vodafone announced 7 have launched.

Australia - Launched
the Czech Republic - Launched
Egypt - NO (launching shortly)
Greece - Launched
Italy - Launched
India - Launched
Portugal - Launched
New Zealand - Launched
South Africa - NO
Turkey - NO

I have to say i respect Rendier for offering us the iphone whatever his price. If you cant afford it pls dont hate on the man, i cant afford it either but i'm not hating.
If he markets his product at every turn what the hell is wrong with that? You watch atleast 4hours a day of sms blah blah to 31231 or whatever you dont complain about that... you get flyers in your mail, you get spam. Atleast Rendier is offering what others(vodacom) dont at the moment granted at a premium but thats what you pay if you want to be the first in the country to have it. Seriously Rendier go ahead and open 100+ threads telling everyone to buy your product i wont mind. I dont know whats wrong with ppl, if you dont want, dont buy or cant you resist or something?

+1

I agree completely. I cant exactly afford it either - but I have complete respect for Rendier providing the opportunity.

Thanks bud.

That's not taking offence... that's me telling you im over arguing with people that clearly have nothing better to do than complain about something so trivial.

Was not the way I interpreted it...

Anyway, I don't have any issue with your iPhone business. Supply and demand. If you don't like it too bad, get it somewhere else. I do agree the price bashing you have been getting is unwarranted (hopefully people have finally got the $199 price out of their heads). In the same way, given the little facts we actually have, it's really hard to point fingers at who is delaying the iPhone in SA. Yes I am annoyed at how long it has taken, but other than the most recent "September" date from the pod cast on MBB there has been no official date announced by Vodacom at all. So yes it's coming but they have not promised when so it's hard to blame them.

That being said, all the other recent announcements from HTC, Nokia etc are coming out in a regular fashion so I can't help but suspect that Apple may have more to do with the delay than everyone thinks. Besides the longer it takes to arrive here the more business you will make ;)
