Damn if that is true then I will rather be supporting Rendier.

hmmm, this is like saying: "You can buy the iPhone 3G on ebay for $1000 OMG its out in South Africa"
igear is clearly not getting their stock from Vodacom, so lets hold our horses before we start saying that prices are too expensive. Any phone that needs to be brought in from overseas is obviously going to be more expensive. But im still pretty sure that Rendier's price will be closer to the real mark, but alas, we are half way through September and i still dont have an iphone in my hands!

"We've signed the paperwork. The phone will be out on September 27th, and we'll be one of only selected stores to stock it."

This was what the manager at the Vodacom shop in Clearwater Mall told me early this morning, when I went to ask about the Omnia and the iPhone. He reckons the 27th really is THE date, and he was quite annoyed at my reaction (I told him I'd believe it when I saw it).I do find it a bit weird that they'd release it on a Saturday, over a long weekend - but on the other hand that might just be a good time to do it!

So, there we have yet another date, which will most likely turn out to be bogus. But maybe not this time? Incidentally, he said the Omnia is only likely near the end of the year (!).

What I also find interesting is that the iStore in the same Mall told thed33p that they are expecting their demo phone shortly, yet the manager at the Vodacom store claims they'll be the only shop to sell it in the Mall. circles within circles, wheels within wheels...

All I know for sure is that the iPhone IS coming to SA. When, how, where and for how much, is as much a mystery today as it was when this thread first started!

I gave up on waiting for the iphone...the omnia is much better
:-)

Anyone else tried to confirm this?

Which stores will have it then?

what are ppl prepared to pay 4 this phone... here's some comment from roughlydrafted.com.
I’ve moved to India where the official price of the iPhone 3G is a staggering $800. There’s no way in hell I am paying that much, and so I am dependent on the Jailbreakers ...

I want to get pre-approved....
I only hope this is real and that the 27th is indeed the release date, or I will go criminally insane!

Seems like i have already gone insane, can't delete my double post.
dotcat, if they reveal any pricing info, be sure to post it up here so we can either:
swear (most likely)
or have a little sigh of relief.

i have ordered my iphon3g 8gb from igear for R 9 600.00 and i need to say that yes maybe i am crazy but two things i phoned vodacom and asked them to advise me if this price is competitive and they gave a long story of they dont have the phone pricing structures blah blah blah so i hve either shafted myself big time or i am going to be a happy customer on thursday tomorrow when i get my iphone

oh and another thing i recon the fact that they are sending out pre approval forms might be an indication that the phone is only on contract...... or at least the contract customers are getting first option

@dotcat

How about some feedback on your experience yesterday with getting pre-approved?

I Agree, I'm not looking to move onto a Vodacom contract and I got excluded from the sms, and now the email.

All I actually want to know is the pricing before I do anything

i think that once the initial demand is over vodacom will sell it on prepaid but the price is anyones guess

You could have gotten one from me for R7500 with a Griffin car charger.

You have shafted yourself.
