The Official Cyanogenmod Thread

If anybody is interested in using the new Google launcher (from the Nexus 5) you can get the necessary APKs here: http://phandroid.com/2013/10/31/download-and-install-the-new-google-experience-launcher/

I only installed the actual launcher (GoogleHome.apk) and it looks like it works quite well so far with the CM10.2 base. A very simple launcher but it does look nice and slick and it's very snappy plus it has the voice search from any home screen (with "OK Google") and very tight Google Now integration.

Is Cyanogenmod compatible with Samsung Galaxy S3 mini? Don't see the phone on their site :(

I think i will install this launcher.

On CyanogenMod 10.2 with S3.

The Cell Broadcast notifications were driving me nuts and after trying a few suggestions this is the only one that has worked.

The following terminal commands disable those notifications:
su
mount -orw,remount /system
rm /system/app/CellBroadcastingReceiver.apk
reboot

On CM I had the same problem. Found out that the setting is buried inside the messaging app settings...

Installed cm10.2 on my S3 and loving it. Is there a way of creating folders in the app drawer or should I install a launcher app as well?

CyanogenMod Installer Application Removed from Play Store

Today, we were contacted by the Google Play Support team to say that our CyanogenMod Installer application is in violation of Google Play’s developer terms.

They advised us to voluntarily remove the application, or they would be forced to remove it administratively. We have complied with their wishes while we wait for a more favorable resolution.

To those unfamiliar with the application, it has a single function – to guide users to enable “ADB”, a built in development and debugging tool, and then navigates the user to the desktop installer. The desktop application then performs the installation of the CyanogenMod on their Android device.

After reaching out to the Play team, their feedback was that though application itself is harmless, since it ‘encourages users to void their warranty’, it would not be allowed to remain in the store.

We’ve seen hundreds of thousands of installations of the application, proving the demand for more choice, and that the need for an alternative Android experience exists. As we work through this new hurdle, we will continue to make available and support the installation process via our own hosting services.

Fortunately, Android is open enough that devices allow for installing applications via ‘Unknown Sources’ (ie sideload). Though it’s a hassle and adds steps to the process, this does allow us a path forward, outside of the Play Store itself.

The application can be found via the Get Started link on CyanogenMod.org. In addition to ‘sideloading’, we are submitting the application to the Amazon and Samsung app-stores.

Update: Removed reference to Google stating the app was not in violation of TOS – this was a mischaracterization of Google’s statement.

I was waiting for this.

Now for a question that has probably been answered plenty times.

Coming from 10.1....

Do I just flash 10.2 as I would have any other 10.1 update? Or is there more to it?

I think I read somewhere that I need a new GAPPS version with 10.2. Yes? No?

I discovered after flashing CM10.2 to my Note 10.1 tablet that the infrared functions are not supported. In fact the infrared only works on TouchWizz. FFS...

I would first try installing it over 10.1 and see if you have any issues. The new GAPPS is just a collection of up to date apps. But it is good to get it. You might even find that some of them might be "old", but that isn't a problem. If you find that after installing 10.2 and GAPPS that you have issues, then backup, wipe and redo
