The Official Cyanogenmod Thread

Total newb here. Have just rooted my S3 (never done this before) and have downloaded CM 10.1.3 and am curious (although a bit nervous) about giving this a go.

Is there a clear step by step guide somewhere?

I'd like to backup my current state first and I also need to know, may be a dumb question but when CM is installed is all my data and apps still there or is it like a fresh install of windows?

Just google it. There are tons of guides. I just googled 'flash S3 rom' and all of the results were guides...

Ok ... PA 3.99RC2 pwns CM10.2 in stability & battery life on my Nexus 4.

+1

Have stuck by PA for a while now- it just works, and is buttery smooth on the Nexus 4. I am also quite pleased that the best kernel developer for the Nexus 4, has now joined the PA team.

cool .. who? Franco?

As for PA 3.99 .. wow! not a single freeze! Fast and responsive. Its in a league of its own right now imo. To think I put up with the CM10.2 nightlies for so long... Silly me!

Correct. :)

It's been this way since 3.97. I actually held back on flashing 3.99 until RC2 came out. The improved HALO is also quite impressive...

Thanks. Reading through the thread it seems a bit buggy, though I am quite keen to try out HALO now. Busy updating to the latest CM nightly right now, might give that unofficial PA build a run over the weekend.

You could also load the Xposed Framework, that would allow you to load HALO...

Thanks - will take a look at it. I'm quite happy with the latest CM nightlies though - haven't experienced any issues yet. Kinda waiting to see if PA releases a stable build for the S2 i9100, or what the AOKP 4.3 RC / stable is going to be like. Also tempted to try out Biftor / Carbon rom in the meantime as I'm after something with loads of customization & good battery life. Wonder if anyone here is using any of those two roms?

Not likely I'm afraid. PA are going to do a lot less ports, and focus on specific devices only (they haven't specified models, but my money would be on the Nexus devices). The version of 3.99 for S2 is an unofficial port.

FreeStanler is using CarbonROM from what I remember...

Has anyone successfully flashed CM 10.1.3 on the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (i9190)? The ROM is write protected (in other words, the bootloader is locked). I have managed to install CWM without any issues however.
