The Tata Bolt Thread (Tata Lovers)

I knew from reading up on the car before buying it that the nav system does not work here. Does not bother me.

Even if it did work, I would most likely not use it as I prefer using Waze on my phone. Rather use the infotainment system for what it is good at .... awesome sound.

Lolz, i missed that bit. I just read it has a nav system and that was it. Mind you, the video reviews I saw were from India...
But what I'm persuing is the car app is actually just a mirror program to mirror what's on your phone. So a little bit of code tweaking could have your Waze being mirrored instead of the current app. Ok maybe a bit more than a little code tweaking, but ya, most developers could do it given the source code.
I have actually messaged Harman as well in this regard, but no response as yet. Tata India just referred me to the inept Tata SA offices. But it's all good, still enjoying the car. Even with it's coffin styled dial indicators.

How is the Bolt doing?

Car went for its 45K service this Saturday. First one out of service plan. Cost R2800.00 I asked them to check the brakes but when I collected the car they told me there is still 50% left. I have never had to replace the brakes on this car since I got it. I mentioned this and the guy that worked on my car told me the Bolts do have rather long lasting brakes.

Only thing they quoted on extra was the wiper blades, which I did ask them to replace because they have become extremely noisy and dont wipe very well anymore. The back one they did not replace and I queried this when I collected the car and saw it is still the old one (I could see it is the old one because the rubber has started pulling loose from the arm), and the guy said they did not replace that one because you cannot just replace the rubber blade, you have to replace the whole unit and it is R500.00 for it. He said I must just let him know if I want a new one and then they order it in as they dont keep it in stock due to the cost.

I somehow doubt this story, wipers in small basic cars are very common, but that is where dealers make a killing since the fancy covers make it look daunting to replace for an average motorist.

I call bullshit as well - I am sure that the Bolt has EXACTLY the same rear wiper mechanism, arm & blade as my Indica - and that is just a regular 12" (30cm) Bosch wiper blade.

The Midas near me didn't have the 12" blade units in stock last time I changed all 3 of my wiper blades, so I just got a 14" one, disassembled it & my original one - and trimmed the rubber blade off the new unit to 12" in size and reattached it back to my existing wiper blade unit.

Cost me around R 80 or so if I remember correctly.

I went just now to have damage I caused to my car Sunday morning polished out. I was visiting a friend and his driveway is a bit of a bitch, and I scraped along a white pole (I was going to reverse back to avoid it, but I stalled the car and it rolled forward and into the damn pole)....but the the people moved ...but then I saw there is a Bosch service centre right there so quickly popped in and asked about the rear wiper. They cut one for me and installed it. R85.00 :)

Hey Bolt lovers. Anyone else have issues with the USB media functionality? Now and then, while scrolling through folders or the files themselves, the system jumps out to the Radio and any attempt to get back to the media function is met with an error message. It comes right a day or so later, no pattern to show what fixes it. Anyone else had this and got it fixed? Thinking if taking the car into Tata maybe.

I just use the SD card slot. Have no issues.

Yeah, it happened with that slot this morning. Thought I was clever and stop using the USB coz I thought it couldn't handle a 32GB, so I used a small 2GB SD... Same thing unfortunately.

Perhaps try reformatting the memory card.
That's an awesome idea. It seems to have worked. Will let you know if it bugs out again. Also, I've just placed a few songs without the folders. Just hope I don't have to keep formatting the card as a fix though.

Lekker cool beans :)

Mine has got folders with songs in it. Mine has no problem showing the folders and then going into them to play the songs that is in there. I hope this have solved your problem :)

Lolz, just as I finished that message, I pressed the Media button, coz it was playing from the Home screen... It bugged out again. I'm going to Tata today anyways to pick up a few accessories. Will see what they have to say.

Tata Sumo, Bolt (hatch) discontinued – Safari, Zest (sedan) to be next
While production of Tata Sumo has been brought to a halt, the automaker has also discontinued the Bolt hatchback.

Tata Motors has discontinued production of the Sumo and Bolt hatchback along with the Nano. This is in view of upcoming safety and emission norms. Updating these ageing models would have been uneconomical, and thus they have been discontinued.

The latest version of the Tata Sumo was the Gold; which was launched in November 2011. It was powered by a common rail, 4 cylinder engine offering 84 bhp power at 3,000 rpm and 250 Nm torque at 1,000 rpm mated to a 5 speed manual transmission.

The Sumo was offered in a price range from Rs.7.52-8.96 lakhs and was sold in 4 variants.

The model also cannot be updated with safety features such as ABS, reverse parking sensors, driver side airbags and seat belt reminders and hence production has been stopped.

Sales in Mar 2019 stood at 96 units, declining 88% from March 2018. Existing stocks at dealers will be sold till inventory available.

The Tata Bolt hatchback was unveiled at 2014 Auto Expo. It is also being pulled out of production.

The Bolt was based on the older X1 platform but with Tata Motors now focusing on all cars with the all-new IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy as well as modular ALFA and OMEGA platforms, the company has no other option but to pull out older models from production.

Bolt sales in March 2019 stood at 30 units, down from 421 units sold in March 2018.

To replace the Bolt, Tata will launch Altroz, which will sit above the Tiago above the company line-up.

Apart from the Sumo and Bolt, Tata has also pulled the Nano out of production.

Next it will be Zest that will be discontinued, as the company already has the Tigor update planned for launch. Zest is based on same old platform of Bolt, and is powered by BS4 engines.

Zest sales for Mar 2019 stood at 645 units, down from 1604 units in Mar 2018.

Tata Safari is another car which will be axed. Safari sales for March 2019 stood at 445 units, down from 1145 units sold in March 2018.

Replacing old Tata cars are a range of new Tata cars. The company has already launched Tiago, Tigor, Nexon, Harrier in recent years. Next they have Buzzard, Altroz, H2X, 8 seater MPV to rival Innova Crysta, and so on.

Well almost another Bolt owner here. Bought my mum a 2015 XT as a runaround. Cracking little car. What a soundsystem as well. Gearbox takes a bit of getting used to but best car in it's class.

Just an update; seems I don't have a Tata specific service centre here in Pinetown, so took her into Kia. They simply said I had to book her in for a R850 diagnostic check.
On a plus note though, Bluetooth audio is working just fine, so i use my phone or jack in the USB to my phone. Another plus, I wad able to order in mud flaps, so hopefully a little less dirt splatter across the sides.
I'm also really wanting the body kit, but at R14k, it's not gonna happen.
