The Tata Bolt Thread (Tata Lovers)

Ai jai jai. How much is that normally and is it urgent?
You can probably leave it for quite a while still. Maybe do it on the next service

I had quite a big lip on mine, and it was just fine. There is no aftermarket front brake discs for my car, I would need fork out for originals or sell the car.The shop managed to skim them I am now on 54mm left, apparently 50mm is too thin. I am at 110k on the original front discs.

It's normally R1000 for the front for both of them.

depends if its in spec or not,
sometimes one needs to replace rotors and pads at the same time.

did have good experience with astrobrake in Boksburg
told me skimming isnt a good idea, rather replace pads and rotors then going for skimming.

Thanks meneer. Will have to leave it for a bit. Money is a bit tight so I was very relieved when the pads only cost me like what ... R550 to replace. Prices I got before from Bosch etc was like R2000.00. They said they have to order the pads from TATA etc etc. Maybe if we get a bit of extra money in December I will look at having the discs skimmed. I just have to keep in mind also I need to put some money away if I can for when the car is due for a service again next year.

Not a Bolt lover after witnessing the below:

Both rear brake lights not working.

It seems to be a common problem with quite a few models besides TATA - I often see it on other small hatchbacks such as the Figo, Polo, i10, Picanto, Swift and also on some other bigger sedans, bakkies & SUV's as well, where just the centre high mounted stop light (HMSL) - which is often a LED unit - lights up, but the normal incandescent brake light bulbs in the side tail-light clusters are non-functional.

The worst offender I have noticed on the roads seems to be the Hyundai Atoz - it has FOUR normal brake lights - two on each side AND a HMSL - and 99% of them seem to have at least two of the side ones (or all four in most instances) not working.

****....my car is way overdue for its service. I think I have propably voided my warranty because of it....and when I start the car it makes squeeling noise until it warms up a bit and then it goes away. Friend says he thinks it is a dry belt somewhere. Anyway, hoping to get some money soon and then I will have my poor child serviced.

My Indica also had the squealing belt issue a few years ago - more noticeable when starting up for the first time on a winter morning - replacing the ancillary belts solved that problem for me.
As long as it is a dry belt in need of some lube and poppers and not the turbo disintegrating slowly.

Tata's seem to be pretty good when you watch their reviews of their new products like the Tata Harrier. It's such a shame that Tata ruined whatever reputation they had in SA. Tata, Geely and Chery were in SA for a lot longer than other new manufacturers but today they all left without any warning.

The incompetence is staggering, even Mahindra is doing better than them.

Managed to get aftermarket discs from Masterparts for R710.
