The Tata Bolt Thread (Tata Lovers)

So finally took the car for its major service @ The Garage in Dunkeld. The car has been making a very ugly screeching noise when you drive it for the first 10 - 15 minutes or so and then it would subside. Me and my friends thought it is a belt that is going. Anyway, the belts needed replacing according to the service manual anyway so they did that. BF and me were already on our way to fetch the car and they phoned and said it is still making the noise and they are trying to find where it is coming from. We get there and they are still looking. About 15 minutes later the mechanic calls me over and tells me to come have a look...they found the sourse. The gasket in the exhause manifold I think it is called has gone, so there is a leak. As you give petrol it sucks in air through the leak and it makes that ugly noise.

Told me I must bring the car back on Monday (today). While driving home in the car I could feel the engine hestitating a lot and loss of power. This morning while driving to Dunkeld I thought I was not going to make it up Jan Smuts, that uphill by Hyde Park. Car had a lot less power. As I get to The Garage the check engine light comes on. They say it is because it sucking in air at the leak and not getting a vacuum or something to that effect.

I just hope they get the part and get it sorted. Eish. He said about another R1800.00 :(
 
Mmmm ok. So they stripped it and now it turns out the gasket is fine, but one of the bolts has cracked and came out. So they need to replace the bolt and replace the Helicoil....WTF ever that is.

Well, this is another R1500.00

But I know they not just making it up. The noise is very much real. I just happened to think it is a belt that is on its way out. He also showed me where the leak is and how it causes the noise. :(

He also said the aircon pump looks like it might be on its way out. But that will just have to wait. I very seldom use the aircon anyway to save petrol.

You need to use the aircon, this keeps all the seals lubricated, if you don't they perish and cause failures on the compressor and such. Also the aircon shouldn't really use that much petrol anymore, in the older cars perhaps but most modern cars the AC doesn't use that much engine power.

I do use it every now and again, specially if I am on the highway, so not like it never gets used. Just not very frequently. When the engine is in standard mode (sport), then the power drain is not that noticeable, but when in ECO you definitely notice it lol.

I find eco modes are a joke on cars, I put eco mode on my clio and it actually ends up using more petrol as I'm trying to get the car up to speed.

On my car it definately makes a difference. Like when I am on the highway and I turn eco mode on I can actually feel the power go down and the fuel consumption indicator go much further to the 30km/l side meaning it is using way less petrol. But then if I am on the highway and there is a uphill, even with my foot down to the floor I lose speed, so disengage ECO and the car pulls away and gains speed easily, but then the fuel consumption indicator falls way down to higher consumption :)

It makes a difference, but it makes it so I end up using more petrol :-(

I am a very chilled driver, so dont drive my car hard. So instead of revving higher etc to get it up to speed same time it would take it normal mode I just take longer to get up to speed.

My sister and BF says I drive like Miss Daisy lol.

I had a girlfriend a few years ago who at the time had a indica and one night we went around a corner and the ball joint broke. so the left side suspension went all skew and the tyre ate fender the render ling and chewed up the bumper a bit. Tata would not cover the damages on this 7 month old car so my girlfriend did. I told her to sell the heap but befor she could there was a electrical short and burnt wiring which thankfully Tata sorted because as I told their service agent that if it was not resolved I was going to turn the issue into a huge issue with balloons, poppers and lawyers.
