All very valid points, and it's been the subject of many a hot debate the last week or two, trust me. You know I support as much "end-user freedom" as possible.
This is a specialist apn, if I can call it that, and we somehow need to ensure only those who don't wear net-nappies (very cool term, going to high-jack it!) will use it.
As the news on availability of the apn spreads across this and other forums, you're going to see an increase in the 'me-too' clickers, users who click on the option because it's free and they read somewhere someone else used it (probably for a valid reason). And they'll click without understanding the implications. When last did you (as a 'net-vet') read the T&C's or the EULA when you click the "I accept" button? It just does not hold much weight anymore.
Not only will you be responsible for all data against your card, even if someone is port-scanning the cr*p out of you, but you'll be using capacity on the back-end systems where it might not be necessary.
In addition, we're already having to 'prove' the billing systems aren't stealing money (I spent more than 4 hours on the phone a while ago before the sub agreed that the billing was right) and this will increase drastically if the end-users don't understand the implications of using this apn.
I've even considered having all the requests come directly to me for 'approval', but probably won't do it this way. I'm way too found of the occasional Amstel...
