Samsung Galaxy tabs get an updated range

Samsung, Apple’s biggest competitor in the market for iPad-sized tablet computers, is updating its line to include a feature that lets a tablet act as a universal remote control for an entertainment center.

The 7" for $250 isn't as exciting as it could have been. Hardware is roughly the same as other $2-300 tablets, particularly the screen. The one I like is the 7.7" LTE - 720p SAMOLED+, 1.4ghz dual core, 20 hour battery life. It's a bit overpriced but it's one of the top Android tabs around atm.

The fact that they aren't matching or beating Apple on the screen res is somewhat disappointing actually.

I am still actually waiting for the ICS update for my Galaxy 8.9, so getting a bit gatvol atm...

So it's going to have an IR port? That is quite clever though I'd rather see that sort of functionality in the S3 seeing as it's more remote sized. Tablets are great for controlling media centres but Wifi data is better for the type of data that is transferred (movie information etc)

I bet thats because ApplePie probably patented that xHD res on a 9.7" screen. lol

That would be hilarious. Samsung manufactures Apples 9.7 inch 1536 x 2048 screen, but cannot use same screens in their own devices because of patents....

If Samsung could guarantee their tablets would sell in as high numbers as the iPads they too would probably be buying extremely large consignments of components, thus saving money and having a product they can sell at a price people will pay.

Funnily enough that is kind of the case. I remember reading that there is a whole separate department in Samsung that deals mostly with the Apple display devices and that Samsung is not allowed to use the same Tech for their products. Hence why Samsung is pushing the Super AMOLED screens so much.

Samsung is increasingly distancing itself from LCD and pushing OLED. I guess that's why they felt it would be appropriate to license their top-range LCD screens to Apple. The world of hardware is a weird, internecine, incestuous, murky place.
