My N97 is 1 month old and it has scratches on the camera lens caused by the lens cover - its seems to be a common problem on the N97. The guys up in Joburg have these issues sorted out at Vodaword within an hour - but here in the Cape things are different.

Vodacare Canal Walk : After 5 minutes of holding they say they can do it but they do not have the part. They are not going to order it either unless I book the phone in and leave it there for 3 days to a week.

Vodacare Somerset Mall : Do not have the part and they are not willing to do this as an under warranty repair.

Vodacare Tygervalley : Did not answer the phone after it rang for 5m23s.

So you want your phone fixed, but you dont want to give them your phone for them to fix it

Vodacare in Somerset West is not at Somerset Mall (it is not a Vodacare) but it Main Road Somerset West

I want it fixed but not be without a phone for a week. Makes sense if you look at the guys in Joburg getting theirs fixed in an hour.

Correct - they moved of of the mall - I forgot. But they are still unwilling to fix it.
Bloody Nokia's
Alway problems...
True that :p but no where near as many problems as other brands - especially the fruit pack brands.
I have a 5800 and N82 that I also use and they are great.

That 5800 any good?
Want to replace my 2G iPhone in a while, and don't want to spend 8k on another one.

They can, if they have the part in stock. You would still need to "book it in" for that hour.

As for waiting a week, they do supply you with a loan phone.

IMO, they could order the part then when it comes you could just take the phone in that day and have it replaced.

I'm not however sure about the warranty issues.

I got my 5800 (8 months old) for R1800 on bidorbuy a few weeks ago and immediately flashed it to V40 and I have not experienced any of the growing pains many others have. If you can live with not-so-great camera performance (seeing as you have an iPhone you probably can) then the 5800 is a great phone. Apart from the more evolved homescreen that the N97 has you get everything else in the 5800. I actually want to sell my N97 and use the 5800 as my main phone.

Actually I want a nice camera in my new phone, nice screen and gps.
Not interested in running "business" apps like excel etc.

Guess I'll have to book it in then and see if they manage to get it right within a week.

If you need touchscreen and good camera then you should look at the N97 or SE Satio.

As matter of intererest all Vadacare branches in Cape Town can ONLY repair up to ARC 2 (Advanced Repair Centre Level 2) anything higher has go to Jhb.

This just confirms that Vodacare Tygervalley (Franchise) which belongs to "Something That Sounds like a ex-rugby player" of sorts who also owns +/- 13 Vodashop Franchises in the Northern Suburbs of the Cape are totally useless with none of the branches online, all faxed to one HQ in the Northern Suburbs. This is where "Typo" errors are made and no online contract vetting (Customer has to wait 48hours and return call, resulting slow and poor VSP services.
THIS IS NOT GOOD FOR THE VODACOM BRAND Mr P. Uys PLEASE.

For online VSP transactions branch to branch use Vodacom4U shops please.

It is a year later, and nothing has changed with Vodacare's service in CPT, it is still BAD. My iPhone 4 is 1 month old, I've been having problems with it loosing signal and dropping calls all the time.

Went to Vodacom, Somerset Mall, they said they know that some of the iphones do this and that is why they give the bumper for free. So i said but do all of the iphones have this problem, and they said NO, only some of them.
I phoned customer service, they weren't able to help, said I must take the phone to voda care somerset west. Took the phone to them, but they need to send it to Jhb, and it will take 7 to 14 days. It is absolutely ridicules, i run my whole business from my phone, and how must I go 2 weeks without my phone.

Anyone any advice?

This is a problem with the Iphone 4 and yes...that is why the bumbper is issued with it at no cost to the client. Are you using the phone with the bumper or not?

The 5800 has problems with the screen getting lines across it. Looks like a display issue and is quite common. I know someone who's just out of warranty and Nokia won't touch it.
