Vodacom explains its higher prices

Those CellC straight up contracts are just light years ahead of anything that Vodacom, MTN or 8ta offers.

I think I will have to port come next year.

There are three places I spend a lot of time at (two in JHB and one in KZN) - all three only get EDGE from Vodacom (there's 3G all around, but they all seem to be deadspots on their map). Same areas other networks - MTN 21mb HSDPA, Cell C 21mb HSDPA, even 8ta (in JHB on their network) 21mb HSDPA - premium network indeed. Luckily all three of my Vodacom contracts are ending in the next four months - hello Cell C. And in what universe is 13x the price of Cell C justify (R2 oob vs 0.15) 'better service' anyway?

Vodacom is the superior network

but I still think their prices are too high. One thing though that I will never accept from Vodacom is their unethical business practises. To charge R2 a meg OOB in this day and age is simply unacceptable. Their contracts are confusing and they structure it in such a way that it is not possible to top up unless you have the top up contract which is extremely expensive. So while I love their networks, I do not appreciate their business ethics and for this reason I will not do business with them.

I also believed this till the day I started using CellC but now understood how inferior my reception was and how terribly I was ripped off every month just browsing few sites, boom!!!!!!!!!!! airtime finished ,used to recharge for more than 300 rand just to browse internet, now with CellC I have to try hard to finish my data 5Gb/Month in my I phone and I am getting best deal in South Africa for voice data sms mms you name it.
I think people should never believe this corporate jargon they are spending millions just to brain wash people believing utter non sense .Please start voting with your wallet, shouldn't touch Vodacom MTN , DSTV to name a few and spread this message to your contacts.I think SA consumers are being ripped off as we lack a sense of value for our Hard earned money, should have respect for each cents as we are living in a country where millions of its citizens don't have those few cents.

well.... vodacom has got at least one thing going for them... which, despite what their network performance or costs may be or not, makes it (at least for me) the network of choice for office: having to manage other users' modems : the Vodacom website that allows monitoring of data and airtime balance, and ability to add more data bundles online.
I have quite a few users, who are simply not able to check balance, load data etc, so kiepie has to do it :-)
Only Vodacom has the online ability for this, so until 8ta, MTN, Cell-C gives the option, VC it is for corp modems :-)

Did you even look for this?

I can see my balance/minutes/data online at CellC. I don't even need internet to topup my data or increase my airtime.

My problem is not with the dude, my problem is with the clowns that pay him a salary. They will only make a complete killing for that long I can assure you, their complete arrogance and resilience to remain competitive will bite them in the ass eventually. They are displaying very obvious shortsightedness, they ride on the back of the fact that they (in the past) was the best network and built themselves a nice little customer base. Their customers will (already are) jump ship at the first change they get. They offer nothing of real value and just manage to piss off their base on an ongoing basis, this is if forums such as these are anything to go by.

They have people locked into contracts (myself included) which is why they retain at the moment. We live in a real world, so people will only hold out with them for that long, and with each passing day, the other smaller providers are improving their networks (for those that evanglise the VC network which I have had no good experiences with). By the time they realise they waited to long, their customers will be signed up with providers that offers value for money, good service, a decent network and actually act (at least) if they care about their customers.

Sounds like you had a bad customer experience, also sounds very much like an individual case, these guys serve millions with their products, *millions*. Trust me, they are only going one way, and that's up.

Thank you for the arrogant explanation Vodacom. We now understand clearly. :wtf:

About your sim card dilemma there are 3rd party providers out there that will manage this for you at no extra cost. What they even do is ex. upload 500MB worth of data this month, next month if the user have not used it up they let the data carry over so you don't have to pay for another 500MB for that month. Only when it runs out do they automatically do a top up. So your even saving money then.

as long as people are willing to pay the prices, they would be stupid to change, whatever reason they give. I for one am not willing to and so will stick to cell c.

I vote we change the month of August to vodacom bull**** month.
All they are trying to do is damage control as they know people are waking up to their dodgy business practices and ridiculous high prices.
Not to mention absolutely pathetic network.
You trying to tell me Cell C is worse than vodacom? Impossible.
Since akc left - vodacom has lost its direction and has become a clone of telkom.

Who said the numbers are correct?

Their subscriber numbers reflect that reality. People aren't moving away from them, despite their prices being higher

cool... still true about the signal coverage, in remote areas (where our guys need it) VC still better than most other networks.
Good signal in urban areas only helps so much.
Still ... the solution is to get people to help themselves, be able to check the stuff them selves, load balances themselves.
I still maintain, if you are to dof to do the basic stuff, u shouldn't be forced to use a tool you cant operate :-)

I was amazed at how ignorant our consumers are ,but I made sure that even the cleaner in my office knows about the new CellC prices ,when ever I see any body in my office recharge using eMpTyN or Vodascam I make sure to inform that they can port to CellC free of charge and retain their number and save few rand.I was happy when one of my worker came back and thanked me for helping him to choose CellC and he saved hundreds of rand,he will also spread the message to his family and friends.Lets start this revolution, its going to catch fire soon:)

Did Patel attend the same woodwork classes as JM ?

Quote "potentially higher rates than its competitors." It is not potentially higher, it IS HIGHER....more than double in fact.

and

Quote "and may even go to 15c per MB like Cell C if they “have to”. This just tells us all straight out that Vodacom are ripping the public off. They will only succumb and reduce the rates if and when the uneducated masses take cognisance of what is going on, and switch to their competitors. In the mean time they will line their pockets with the help of the impoverished in SA.

It is one constant bad customer experience, and if you think it is an individual case, I suggest you spend some time on the Vodacom treads on this and other forums. This is not about A bad customer experience. They insult their customers every time they try to offer some silly promotion. You always have to meet ridiculous conditions or make use of their promotions at all hours of the night or it is an impossible string of events that have to happen before you qualify or some kak, they are arrogant regarding their pricing and they keep hammering that they have a superior network... it may be on some technical sheet somewhere, but not in the world I am living in.

I realise these are all big companies and service is bound to fail somewhere, but VC just takes the cake, eats it and then craps it out on their customers heads again. To give you an idea, my contract has been with Vodacom for 12 years, so I experienced them in their hay day but they just fell flat on their faces in the last two years.

If you are ignorant enough to still come up for this company and believe that they are going up, you must either be the same person from the article or own a significant number of their shares and you are trying to calm your own nerves. Which ever it is, feel free to stay loyal to the clan, I will be moving my business once this contract term ends.

All i read was yeah we charge more, cellc is cheaper. Reason no reason really because we can lol at dumb customers. it is really like getting robbed they let you know they are OINSA.

Have you even tried using 8ta or CellC's online service? Even if you don't have any data you can go onto their websites. I just topped up my 10GB 8ta bundle with a 2GB+1GB bundle for R150 yesterday. All I had to do was go to the website and click that I'm currently online with my 8ta sim. It sends me to a page with the bundles available and I just click buy. Data bought in 10 seconds and a couple of clicks. You can also see your available balance on the same page.

This was my first time using their online service as well and it was so easy. Just click, click, buy.

P.S. Articles like this will get people to move away from Vodacom. People just need to spread the news that they refuse to compete with price anymore.
