This is off to a very rough start for Webafrica, first the capacity issues (has that been resolved ?) combined now with the widespread effect of online gaming. With more and more games moving to having some aspect of online playing a major role, some of the highest selling games are online focused, combine the console and PC sales of course and you're looking at an aspect of a service that cannot be ignored. No longer is it just a few games that would be affected by this its the most popular ones ! (aside from skyrim).
Webafrica came to the party late with Uncapped and before December I heard nothing but great things and experienced nothing but great things as well. To me this was critical as they had to compete with a cheaper service (MWeb) and then a service slightly more expensive at R700 being OpenWeb's gold. Not expensive enough to make one change unless they saw better service coming. I am pretty sure that everyone who is not a Webafrica subscriber and was thinking about it is reading these threads and definately deciding not to use it or to wait it out (unless they just use normal browsing).
Then moving back onto the subject of packet loss and gaming, whats going on here ?
The only online game I could find that didn't require a massive download was Second Life (I'm generally a xbox user) and lucked out to find it had a packet loss meter, over the course of 30 mins or so it was just bouncing up and down the whole time, at 1am it became so bad that I didn't even bother trying to figure the game out anymore because my avatar couldn't even move.
Verdict about that game though is seems to be IRC 2.0.
Why would your speeds decrease?
First, we will NEVER deprioritise users if we have spare capacity on our network, unlike other ISPs. In addition to this, you will only get slower speeds IF you don’t play by the rules. Even if your service is deprioritised, browsing remains awesome
Ok so please define "deprioritise users" here because when it comes to services its kind of obvious that ports themselves have priority's and who knows what causes the packet loss. So are you talking in regards to the rest of the network ?
Webafrica please fix this !
EDIT:
I wish people would stop going on about "Awesome Speedtests", the max throughput is generally always awesome with WA... when it comes to http of course, the latency's low and if I do a continuous ping to overseas I get no packet loss (yet this is happening in games to people ?) so its not my line, eg a stream of 190ms or so to europe over 15 minutes 0% loss.
It's as soon as you hit something that's a game or news whatever, that's when all goes pear.
