Web Africa Home Uncapped Feedback

their monitor is useless. be glad you just got 296.83 MB, with mine they throw in a few 700mb+ in there a week. not even possible on a 1mb line, and if you mail them to complain they inform you that their monitor works 100%.

This is so true! I got a warning for excessive usage. Apparently I used 12 gb in 7 days. Last 4 days I've had my mac off so zero downloading possible! I've downloaded like 4 gb according to them and my average usage went to 12 gb over last 7 days.

I've now decided that I couldn't give a ****. If they cancel my account, I'll just go elsewhere

Having used WA's pre-paid product for the last 3 years or so , i went ahead and signed up for the uncapped service in starting in March.
Had nothing but lag problems while gaming, slower download speeds and slower browsing on the uncapped account , which doesn't happen on the pre-paid.
This happens even if i have not exceeded my rolling window cap.
After waiting 2 weeks for support to tell me why , i finally received this reply to my email this morning.
How unfortunate.

"It seems from what we have gathered that the uncapped accounts not optimized for gaming.

If you compare the prepaid and the uncapped accounts, the uncapped account would receive higher latency on Browsing, Gaming, VOIP, Streaming, VPN, etc.
This is of course, only when our network is under going a lot of network traffic.
When traffic is low, then the uncapped account will have the same latency as the prepaid account."
:(

I can't say that this account feels me with confidence. I had hoped in time to switch to it.

Yeah I think this product is fine for downloading and browsing but not for online gaming and even the throughput speed is not great. On my 1 mb line I am only getting max 75 to 80 kb/sec download according to speedtest.net but real world I'm not getting over 60 kb/sec. Upload cruises though at 40 kb/sec. This does seem to be WebAfrica specific as if I put another account in, works better so it's not my ADSL line

If this is the case' firstly this product is falsely marketed as we where assured that gaming would recieve the same priority as the capped accounts, also this is overpriced aswell against mwebs offering as that seems to perform ten times better according to alot of ppl.

Morning all,

For the packet loss issues, has anything been logged with out ADSL department to look into? No reported issues on our side.

Still the same packet loss as I have been discussing with your guys last week, but the thing is I don't see how I can "log" this without actually taking Fraps and recording my entire game.

On a side note:
Meh.... international speeds [on http] are really bad this morning. Getting 25KBps. Switched to another [uncapped] account and climbed to full speed.

I run a IT Company that relies heavily on a 100% perfectly working Internet connection , and was reccomended Web Africa because of their professional service, and outstanding ADSL Offerings... That opinion soon changed after signing up with them... We started with the standard Home Uncapped 4MB Offering, At the start everything went like clockwork, and we had no issues at all, Normal Web Surfing was great, Streaming Online Video Content went smoothly, and downloads were reaching great speeds. After a couple of weeks, the service just deteriorated over night =/. Streaming was sluggish to say the least, took up to a hour to stream a 10 Minute YOUTube video, Web Browsing took ages to open any site, local or international, and our VOIP Phones were not working at all...

So it was strange that it just suddenly went down hill after a while, when it was working perfectly fine at the start..

Well then the nightmare starts from there... After numerous calls to Web Africa, the problem first went to Telkom according to them , so after dealing with Telkom ourselves they did everything they could on their side even changing our DSLAM but that was nothing to do on their side (as their guest account worked 100% perfect !), which at the end of the day was not even their fault to start off with then ...

Then going back to WebAfrica again , then they suggested we drop the line speed to 1MB, as it might be syncing errors (which again shouldnt be a problem as the Telkom ISP account worked perfectly fine) either way we dropped the speed to 1MB Then, and Well we were given a 1MB Business Uncapped Test account after nearing wits end and wanting to stop the account with them. Well needless to say , it was utter joy again, everything worked perfectly, from the Streaming to VOIP Phones, no hassles at all...

So we moved our contract to the Business 1MB Uncapped on Monday, because everything went smoothly again on the Test account so you would think the standard account would be the same... AGAIN Headaches started , the Test account was not even remotely the same as the account we were then given =/ . It was the same hellish experience we had previously on the standard HOME uncapped account at double the price!!.
Local Pings were over 1000Ms , Average Speeds wouldn`t even nearly sync near 1MB as the connection should be. and the over all experience was terrible again , the same problem that we faced at the start ...

Now why does this have to be such a HASSLE!?, I am paying for a proper Business Uncapped account now, and yet it looks like ive been given the basic home package again... This is a Serious Rip Off and I am NOT happy about this!!... I am done battling over and over about this issue, i expect my money back, as i can BARELY even make use of this service, or i`ll take this further under the Consumer Protection Act...

Have you checked your usage is in line with the Aup? What is your average daily usage?

Wait, if their usage monitor is reporting false usage, and they send you warning letters about it, isn't that a matter for the CPA?

When their Freezone wasn't working properly for uncapped, they were quick to get rid of it, but they're using a broken usage monitor and don't seem to even acknowledge that there are any issues with it? If the monitor reports downloads in times when the user isn't downloading anything, that's not something you can just dismiss.

I agree with you. I find it annoying when I am said to use 250-350MB in an hour when Netlimiter reports (as has been set by my scheduler) 70MB for those hours. I have schedules to ensure that I don't break those 6h windows (with some margin for error), but now I have to drop the speedlimiter by a further amount to adjust for it. I think the biggest problem with the usage limiter is that it doesn't read the usages on the dot of the hour each time. I remember back in the day they had problems with being able to accurately report usage, but those days have passed.

Anyone else noticed a general degradation in the last few weeks or so?

I'm starting to feel the home uncapped accounts are over subscribed. In the beginning buffering didn't exist, now its for every youtube video any time of the day, and I've only been throttled twice since starting in Jan.
