But when I download anything I get under 30kbps during the day, the second the time gets to 5pm I get full line speed again.

Justin has just advised me that P2P, NNTP etc. is now throttled between 06h00 and 18h00.

WebAfrica (pre-IS) previously throttled between 08h00 and 17h00. Since I normally download before 07h00 I could finish before throttling commenced.

Last week - other than my profile problems - I didn't really experience any throttling problems.

Now, it would appear, throttling has been turned on with a vengeance - and for a longer period than we had during pre-IS days .... :(

I had issues accessing Google Services (Drive on this occasion) on Saturday. Switched to Afrihost and all good, back on Web Africa and problems again. Is it just me or does IS give problems with Google Services on occasions?

To one of the WA reps.. can you please explain/elaborate a bit on your star rating system. I have 2 4MB uncapped home accounts, 1 for my office and 1 for my home

- Office account has used 251GB this month, still on 5 stars. Most (probably more than 90%) of this traffic is RSYNC backups of one of our web servers.
- Home account has used 54GB this month, but its on 3 stars. Most of the bandwidth has been used on streaming (spotify, netflix) and then normal http usage when I work from home; torrents total to 1.2GB which were downloaded this weekend.

Why is the one with 251gb on 5 stars and the one with 54gb on 3 stars? I thought streaming wasn't considered "bad" usage?

I've had issues with Gmail quite a few times, went through quite a lot of back and forward with WA's support and the end result was that they can't replicate it and sorry for me. Hasn't happened to me in about 2 weeks though.

I have asked our network team around the Google services issues you experienced and we had no reported or known issues.

Are you still having this problem?

I have found the account you referring to that has the 54gb usage but cannot find the other account that is in use.

Can you PM me the username for the other account please?

No problems atm - everything has loaded for me this evening, but I can definitely say Afrihost capped is faster when it comes to some Google services. Other websites are not an issue.

Hi Blunt,

Our Network team confirmed that the usage and the star rating on the accounts are correct. The account that was on 54gb is on a 2mbs Home Uncapped package and the one that is on 251gb is on our 4mbs Home uncapped package, so the usage ratings are on completely different scales. So you will be allowed to use much more on a 4mbs Home uncapped service than on a 2mbs service.

The usage is not calculated on type of bandwidth used but more so your entire usage over a particular period. Like we said at the launch of the migration to the new network our star rating system on the Uncapped packages do not have a set amounts but are more a percentage based system that takes various factors such as your current usage and network capacity into account which is then updated dynamically.

But have you noticed a drop is your speeds on the 2mbs account since you have moved onto a '3 star rating'?

Hi Justin,

If you take a look here:
skitch.png
you will see it is a "4mb home uncapped" - and not a 2mb uncapped account; the speeds I get are 4MB not 2MB.

If you take a look @ my ticket #1543758 you can see Taariq has also confirmed for me on 6th March that this is a 4MB uncapped despite what it says in my "Services" area. You can also read #1538072 - I tried to downgrade to 2MB while the account was pending cancellation and it was declined according to #1538072, so the account - according to your support on two separate occasions, as well as my usage console - is a 4mb home uncapped.

Therefore the 54GB usage (now 60) and the 251GB usage are on the same account type, and if 251GB is 5 star I shouldn't be worrying about getting dropped below 5 star for quite a while on this account.

Strange one I didn't notice that it was a 4mbs account. I will go back to our Network guys and come back to you with feedback.

PS I noticed netflix buffering took longer and sometimes needed to buffer twice since my 3 star downgrade

What periods are these evaluated on then? Weekly like the previous rolling window system?

Late on Friday I was moved from 5 stars to 2. From Saturday to present and outside of download plus hours (i.e. 6am to 12am) I have done 4.76GB with 4.1GB of that occurring on Saturday to Sunday. Very early yesterday I was moved to 3 stars but no movement between yesterday and today?!?

Hopefully at the end of this week I should have a clearer picture on the usage but it's still "best guess" without and official answer.

I am waiting for feedback from our Network team around this issue and as soon as I get feedback I will post an update.

Still getting 30KB/sec during the day, is no one else getting this on a 1mbps account?

If you getting that speeds on NNTP or P2P traffic then it is expected but if you getting slow speeds overall then we need to investigate this.

How is other protocols like browsing, streaming VOIP etc as those are taking priority during business hours on Home Uncapped accounts only?
