Web Africa Home Uncapped Feedback

If you getting that speeds on NNTP or P2P traffic then it is expected but if you getting slow speeds overall then we need to investigate this.

How is other protocols like browsing, streaming VOIP etc as those are taking priority during business hours on Home Uncapped accounts only?

I am trying to download normally no p2p or NNTP, just normal downloads from http://www.filehippo.com/ for example, also when I try to update my Battlefield 3 I also get slow speeds, browsing goes at full speed, so does watching a Youtube video. I am still on 5 star rating and have downloaded 34.51GB this month.

Any updates @WAJustinW?

The office account is now on 271GB and it's still on 5 stars and my home account is still on 3 stars with 61GB usage.

I'm using a buzybuy 2MB uncapped account which is actually a WA IS account, being that buzybuy is a WA reseller.
Sorry to post this here but Buzybuy dont have a thread, so I thought I'd ask here.
The first week of March was awesome, daytime downloads were running at between 160-180kbps and after 6 it was 200+
Now it seems that I'm shaped to death during the day, HTTP downloads peak at +-120kbps, NNTP +-40kbps and Torrents +-100kbps. It seems the honeymoon is over :(
Right now(19:05) the NNTP download that wouldnt exceed 40kbps all day is running at 190kbps, so I know that its definetly shaping.
Is this normal? Is anyone else on a WA IS account experiencing the same shaping? I had a Plugg test account and it wasn't shaped as heavily as this account.
My account is on 5 stars and has been that way since I started with buzybuy.

According to JustinW (of WebAfrica) shaping takes place between 06h00 and 18h00.

The ops staff are a little slack at turning off throttling, so allow at least 20 minutes either end: I was unthrottled around 18h20 this evening.

But is it right to be so heavily shaped during hours (IS dont throttle)? It has to be shaping because my youtube, tubeplus.me and other streaming sites work flawlessly.
To be shaped down to 25% of your line speed when downloading from news.is.co.za is real k@K especially since the traffic is local!

Hi NomNom,

I have asked our ADSL team to investigate your download speed issues as you should be getting close to full speed on normal file downloads.

They should give you a call soon to troubleshoot.

Any updates @WAJustinW?

I have just queried your issue with our engineers and they are still investigating your issue.

We will provide an update as soon as I get feedback.

You will unfortunately need to take this up with Buzybuy directly as per the Reseller agreement all queries must be dealt by the Reseller.

You have previously given me your customer code via PM so I have logged it with those details. Unless you have another account?

Ah ok didn't know that :o

I still have the same account.

Thanks for logging the problem.

Update: Got contacted by Webafrica, they couldn't replicate the problem :( so it's been handed over to an engineer to look at, holding thumbs. I hope the engineer's name is MacGyver

Hi WAJustinW, I did take it up with them and they advised that the speeds are dictated by IS shaping policies and network congestion etc.
I was just looking to find out if this is the norm for the WA IS accounts, to gauge if its an issue or not.

I've always been happy with WA but has not used them since the change to IS. I've worked with IS before and most certainly not my first choice of ISP. I hope the WA service changes this.

I know allot of guys here have dealt with IS before and are not happy with previous experiences but things have definitely changed for the better.

But instead of me just saying this why don't you guys give our trial a go at link below and see if the experience is still the same?

Justin,

Any truth to the rumours that WebAfrica is busy retrenching some of their staff. I believe 30 letters or so went out to different people including WAJeff??

Hi mikeygza,

We’re constantly looking at our cost structures to ensure our customers get the best value, and so some restructuring is on the cards.

It's kind of private, but a lot less positions will actually be affected than the number you mentioned.

Beyond this all is well with WA though, and we have lots of exciting developments for our customers in the year ahead.

It just makes one sad when you hear things like that, especially when it's the smaller player trying to keep ahead, while fighting the odds against the larger guys.

Thanks for the response, hopefully we will see more exciting things from WebAfrica.

Michael

Hi, I had a trial account before you switched to IS so it wont let me register again to try the new network. any chance you could re-set it? (im not tying to mooch data, i am genuinely looking for a new isp from end March)
