Web Africa Home Uncapped Feedback

Very strange.

Played Xbox Live last night, no problems at all ( Ping were good ). Scheduled some downloaded between 12am and 6am and they all downloaded.

My account is still going very nicely.

I have a question, It may have been asked already i might just have missed it by accident. Do Fileserve/ Filesonic downloads get shaped? and if so how aggressively are they shaped, and does this shaping only occur during peak times? or do they only get throttled once you reach your rolling threshold?

Apart from that i had awesome latency playing MW3 yesterday, even thought the game sucks and the iwnet system is uselss.

Thanks

Morning guys,

I'd like to have a look into this for you, seems very strange that certain protocols are too slow.
Can you please reply with the following, I'll have this passed onto the Engineering guys:

  • What speed Uncapped do you have
  • What's slow?
  • Have you reached your threshold?
  • Are you downloading anything in the background?

- 4MB Uncapped
- SSH (international), HTTPS (international)
- No
- Currently 1 download that's capped @ 85KB/sec, but it's jumping between 3 and 50kb/sec constantly

It's gotten bad within the past few days mainly, previously it wasn't so slow.

Hi Jeff

Office hours for sure then its okayish then drops again round about 7-9pm.

It's definitely based on the hours but if priorities are not supposed to be an issue why is http always full speed and other protocols it depends on the time, I thought everything was supposed to be equal if you were in the threshold.

I have 4MB uncapped and my fileserve was running at 30kbps last night on a premium account. I only started the downloads at 00:00 so not sure what was happening.

Speed browsing and youtube was ok last night though.

Thanks

Very disappointing experience so far WA, hope there's a specific problem to fix and this isn't just how we can expect the service to perform..

I am having the same issues, sent a support ticket.

Typical first day with a new ISP. Performance from old ISP was better.

Downloading torrent files average speed IS (2 star rating) : 80k/s
WA torrent download speed (Day 1, no threshold) : 50k/s

I am not happy, please address these issues.

Our ADSL will be following up with our Engineers about the slow connections for Home Uncapped. Are these results also seen during Download Plus hours guys?

Hey Jeff

DownloadPlus hours are actually the highest performing for me when it comes to non-http protocols.

Just for the record, I get 300KBps+ on nntp and browsing is fast but streaming is pathetic. It loads the page at 200KBps and then streams at max 50KBps (youtube, facebook, twitch.tv).

I know last weekend I was streaming 720p movie trailers with it loading faster than I could play it back, that is also no longer the case.

Hi Jeff,

I noticed as per my earlier post that my Fileserve downloads were very slow after 00:00. Not sure if the speed of these types of downloads are limited during daytime also, or only after we have reached our threshold?

Thanks

Well there are enough negative feedbacks here to convince me to hold out on changing over just yet. I might be entirely wrong here, but I suspect that as more people join and connect, the worse the browsing is going to become. I'm sure that WA will get round to fixing it, but I'll rather wait 2-3 months to see what it's like once it's been running for a while.

My two speed tests were after 00:00 (the times are in GMT, so -2)

My summary of this situation too, quite sad that there is really no ISP in this country that can offer something that they so highly try and promote. Again lies? Geez really was so hoping that this account could be the answer to my troubles :/

Jeff - pse tell me what's different from WA's side with the uncapped service. the home connect products seem to be ok so what's changed?:)

I'm not at the computer during d+ hours but I seem to be able to get through quite a number of large downloads during those hours.

How's about adding the "Freezone" and "Download Plus" bandwidth monitors in the DSL console like on the regular products?

My connection currently is fine and has been since my first mention of the slow SSH and HTTPS
