I'm getting speeds all over show today. News server is not working properly yet for me after the maintenance.

Browsing and streaming is fine though
 
Yay more "we're working on it" responses from support (I don't recall any tickets that didn't end up in that) and the ticket response before that was broken html with spelling errors and not relevant to the subject.

I've gotten frustrated with things to the degree of if everything is not working as it should be in a weeks time I'm cancelling, just doing my ISP homework.

I have put my trust in Webafrica through the December problems and the majority of this month but I've been given hope and let down or gotten temporary solutions far too many times.

Ouch, not great. Send me those ticket numbers and let me check things out for you KinZA.

As said in the post targeting the problem areas directly rather than the same feedback in here over and over. Go back in time to the beginning of this thread and I've been behind you guys 100% but tonight I'm just feeling tired of holding on so long.

WA is making the same mistake as Mweb does. They are aware of a general problem, yet are trying to pose it as specific to a user by asking each person for trace routes and their account details.
 
WA news server is not working for me. It worked for a bit yesterday but its been offline for the most part of yesterday and today when I tried.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Nah...downloading over here. What news program you using? There's a thread on WA's forum about something like this with people using Grabit experiencing problems...I'm using sabnzbd and no problems so far.

That said though, I quickly tested with Grabit 1.7.2b6 (build 1008) this morning and worked for me so don't know if this is resolved or if the other guys are still experiencing problems?

I DL 8 gigs in DL+ - 4 gigs via WA news server and 4 gigs via astraweb. Hopefully this week with the upgrades it will be back to normal and working really well
 
Whats the longest you guys have been "waiting for feedback from our network engineers" as a response for a ticket ?

Todays my two week anniversary of having that response a few times.

That was a query about a low ping service (pingfu) which I just couldn't log into using web africa. Eventually all they did was just close it and well nothing happened to it. Clearly I've been kept waiting for year and few months now, which had me just quit waiting and setup my own low ping service.

I was contacted and provided with an alternate account to test with tonight to compare, thanks WA and I'll report back on that in my support ticket and here.

Tested Right Now

Hi

I've just tested now - 6pm

Streaming on Test : Exceptional (youtube and vimeo)
Gaming - Second life : world data loaded at 600kbps roughly (very good for that game)
News International 1 thread : 250KB/s average dipping to 205 and bursting to 300KB/s

In short, Awesome

Normal Account
Streaming on Test : Exceptional (youtube and vimeo)
Gaming - Second life : world data loaded at 100kbps roughly (very poor for that game)
News International 1 thread : 105KB/s average dipping to 70 and bursting to 150KB/s (it even stalled to 0 once)
 
News servers doing 1 thread will always take a dip, it is just how the protocol works. You need at least 3 threads to keep the nntp data flowing, even on completely unshaped accounts.

The reason for this is, articles are usually 250kbytes, and everytime 1 article is done, it 1st has the request the next, which kinda causes a pause, which is why a single thread will always take a dip, regardless of how fast your connection to the news server is.

Tinuva I usually use 30 threads I chose 1 thread for the very reason that they can dip etc...

When I sit watching something and see it steady round about 250 with the dip going to 200 and pulse to 300 vs another sitting at much lower and dipping to much lower. Ones obviously able to get up to speed quicker, hold it and recover quicker. If I've got everything sitting being redundant to each other then its not much of a test.

Edit: Its why I hate news being compared to say a audio or video stream, if you can piece 20 30KB/s capable threads together you will make your 4meg but not be able to stream say a 720p video and not handle high quality audio.

I'm still having issues with the news server. I'm having the exact same problem as those guys are mentioning on the WA forum
 
WebAfrica browsing feels very sluggish today... Skype once again crawling at 30kB/s, Twitter, MyBB, etc all take far too long to load up. Downloads are unaffected (Old Republic patch downloaded at a breezy 350kB/s).
