What is wrong with men these days?

hmmm... I've read the OP and felt like saying "WTF". Honestly, for me, I found there's a few parts to having success in your night ventures... Now you don't need to have them all, but if you do then sweet,

anyways, so what I have learned is that you never go for the most attractive girl their group, she will most certainly shoot you down (as she probably has done to 20 guys before her), rather, you find an attractive group of girls and you go for the girl (s) that are in the middle of the attractive scale in the group. this the reason why you would do this is because out of that group, the guys are mostly gonna try their luck with the hotter girls, now that leaves the other girls feeling a bit left out, and so now you have an open field to play on. Of course you shouldn't go for a girl that would get you ridiculed from your mates, but just don't try your luck with a girl that's at Jessica Alba's level, as many guys have tried before and many more will try again without much yield.

Next is a guys appearance. If you wearing dirty shoes, and crappy clothes, then your chances of getting a girl are slim at least. Wear clothes that are:
A) comfortable, nothings worse then wearing shoes, and clothes that are hot and uncomfortable, this distracts you from your primary goal, and she (the lady to be) will notice it, and think that you're quite self conscious

B)When I say wear something comfortable, I don't mean wear tennis shoes and tracksuit pants... I mean wear a nice pair of shoes (Puma, Nike, and so on, most of these are designed to look nice and be comfortable). A decent pair of Chinos or Jeans that makes you feel good in. and what ever shirt/jacket you feel you look the best in. If you feel you looking good, then you probably are, and this will bring a little self confidence.

C) this doesn't really follow the whole "looks" part, but smelling good is a must, no girl likes the smell of male musk

Now, after all that, the initial meeting...
DON'T GO UP TO A GIRL AFTER DRINKING COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF ALCOHOL!!!
You see, although the booze may give you an edge on the anxiety, after several beers you gonna struggle to say your name, let alone woe a women, and no women wants a boozed up binging beer drinker over them. I would advise 2 drinks max if you want to woe a women, this ensures that your cognitive functions are still coherent and your anxiety levels are a little suppressed.

another pointer would be to see if any girls are looking at you. If you do see one "checking you out" (as the kids say) then look at her in the eyes, don't look away, look confidently, and you've pretty much have a massive head start...

Now it's the talking period, find something that you can talk about, maybe use a pick up line, but if you not funny, then don't try to be funny... Nothing works worse then a guy laughing at his own jokes, while only receiving deathly stares. Be polite, saying lines like "F**k me if I'm wrong, but is your name Beatrex" or "I've loving the clothes you wearing, but they would look better as a crumpled pile on the side on my bed". Rather, try be honest, be sincere and just look out for signs of potential, such as the biting of her lip. Of course you can't be a boring fish in this conversation, and don't talk about your cars sound system, or the processor of your computer(this maybe surprising, but people do actually expect this to work), rather mention music, art, what ever she seems interested in...

If she asks you to dance, you dance. If you can dance, keep it simple. If you can 2 step, rather not, just keep it simple, there's a time and place to show off, but you don't wanna dance better then she can.

Ok, so the main point I'm trying to make is that perhaps the OP'er just is going to the wrong places... I know with my mates and I, we really just push each other into it... the guy that doesn't get a girl gets punished sort of thing...

I've realized that unless you Brad Pitt, or you one hell of a rich guy, sitting in the corner of a club or what ever doesn't get you girls, and most certainly doesn't get you laid... rather, the guy who isn't afraid of rejection, who is what you see and the guy that throws himself into the group gets the girl. lol.

So i'm seriously curious. How do guys meet women?

Been wondering that

didnt really read the rest of the thread but 3 quick points:
1) women in groups larger than 3 intimidate the crap out of guys. most of us have no idea how to open a biggish group and it also creates the impression that you're having a girl's night, which most guys fear.
2) guys are crap scared of rejection, especially when their buddies are there or if it's a place they frequent. simple as that.
3) guys are pretty oblivious to approach invitations. yes, we might make eye contact and yes you might smile at us, but most guys wont click unless you make it blatantly obvious.

I was going to ask, did you all stay together all evening? if so then it pretty much explains.

I guess it was a case of going to the wrong places. But damn it's not as straight forward as one might think. I've just realised it's simply not as easy as i thought for my single friends to meet men. So many variables so little time. :D

Well firstly intimidating prospects by sticking together is going to fail, second a lot of women just want men to buy their drinks so men have become a little more closed off.

Why not find a guy you like and offer him a drink  as crazy as this sounds females want equality but still expect men to buy their drinks :p

My friends are gatvol of always having to make the first move. They have all but given up. I suggested the same thing and got shot down in flames :p

Well, then those men that your friends have approached are pussies.

i think men who approach the fairer sex have some confidence in themselves but when they are rejected they lose that confidence so maybe its because of that that they do not approach the ladies. you also get some men and women who have no scrupples and when they are rejected they get obnoxoius and move on to the next person and those are the ones who are out for the wham bam thank you ma'am.

This is so untrue though. I observed so many women tonight sitting around just waiting to be noticed or talked to and the men just sat in little groups and conversed.

I just wonder how anyone meets someone these days.

I'm not sure about Sandton, but in Pretoria, so many girls are stuck up b1tches with their heads so far up their own asses that they make it genuinely difficult for one to approach them. So sod that idea :D

Cape Town and especially Bloemfontein girls are the best.

I always found Cape Town women to be cliqué. (sp?)

The lsdies I've met from Johannesburg have generally been pleasant and approachable.

I quickly went through the thread, but couldn't see the following?

How many were you?
krycor asked, did you girls split up for a few minutes or so?

When you were all bundled in a group, did you show interest in guys around you, didn't even one guy look at your group, maybe digging up some confidence on approaching you?

depending on how desperate the women are for attention, i dont really see that working unless you're basically brad pitt or something.
sure, you can strike up a nice little chat for a bit but unless you pull out something damn interesting you're not going to get more than a "umm, we're going to the bathroom" when they leave.

oh, and guys find it easier to try approach girls later on when they're feeling a bit more festive - so lets say after 11 maybe...

Spot on, and as for the highlighted part - that's true too, like last night at the square - except by that point everyone is either paired off or all the good looking people started leaving. Isn't it funny how the attractive people are always first to leave the scene... :D

Hooked up already! :D

I love how people are trying to make it seem like approaching a group of girls is easy, and once you're in you need to talk to everyone etc. You guys seem to forget something - this 'being the centre of attention' approach doesn't suit every guys personality.

The question is - have you had success opening a large group of girls and talking to each of them and making eye contact with each of them etc?

My real advice would be to stop watching shows like the Pickup Artist cos that stuff won't work in SA - girls here are way more cautious by nature (this is SA afterall!) and even more likely to shoot you down. For single people looking to meet single people, nothing beats having a good old night out with mutual friends. All the caution and anxiety would have already been eliminated.

I think that at a certain age bars stop being places where you go to meet members of the opposite sex and become places where people go to hang out with friends.

Most of the people I know have met their partners through work or mutual friends.
