Agreed  A good friend's first child is arriving in late December/early January so I am going to get him a bottle as a gift, so I can have some, of course.

P.S. I made two mistakes recently, the second was giving up alcohol for November and the first was not remembering the last time I gave up alcohol for November

Hello December 1st  Looking forward to my first whisky in a while this evening with my fiancé and some friends.

I

What did you end up paying in customs?

They offer free shipping over 500 pounds which is worthwhile on bigger purchases.
Customs is mostly VAT which is easy to calculate. then some extra fees from DHL...R150 pre-clearance etc.

That's not bad.

I was fully expecting to pay 40% or so including VAT. I import a lot of perfume/cologne and that kills the wallet faster than the actual item.

I might give Hard To Find Whisky and Hedonism (~£30 flat shipping) a try then. Cheers.

To give more detail:

A bottle of Whisky recently costing me GBP 44.13 had additional costs of R 1.36 for Duties, R 162 VAT and R68.20 in Excise.

Then add approx R150 in DHL pre -clearance and then there is/or isn't the latest Dept, of Agriculture fee of R230.

So total of: R 611.56

Which is pretty reasonable - especially on larger orders where a few of those costs won't make up such a large portion of the original price.

Thanks!

Well on larger order all those costs will increase except the DHL fees so it will still all ad up.

Plenty of local shops have the standard Hedonism? o_O Or are you after one of the special releases?
