Bad cable chafed by tree branches, only acts up during wind/rain.

How do I get Telkom to fix it cause it is very irritating as it has been windy quite a lot this month :(

I have already escalated a fault a few days ago and asked TelkomZA but no response yet from any technician

Reading right now

If you did not specific that it is an intermittent fault or mention "dry joint" or "exposed cable" then they will test your line remotely and at a random time, see that you have a service and close the fault.

I did choose the intermittent fault option when I created it on the phone when phoning 10210, got an SMS on 14th saying they will fix it in 2 days but have not received anything else.

If it has then been identified as a cable fault, it could take a bit longer depending on where it is damaged. If it is the dropwire (pole to house) then the normal techie can do it. From the pole back to the exchange is another matter...

oh ok hope it doesn't take long should check if my neighbours also have problems too.

I was having issues with my ADSL recently. Same thing with wind/storm. Connection would eventually drop and come back later.
I logged the fault, and as chance has it, I got a new router/modem. Asus N55U. Suddenly everything was solid as a rock. No issues since (been a few weeks now).

I think the wind or rain created noise on the line that my old router could not handle. The Asus is unphased.

I am using the N300 netgear but may try my other routers and see

If you can hear static noises over the phone (which is what I get on windy days) I doubt the best router in the world will cope with that

There is a little bit of static on the one phone

Take your phone off the hook. It boosts the line voltage

Hmm will try that

Current stats and just resynced now again

You are fortunate enough to have some kind of connectivity. My new line is completely dead since Thursday I reported the fault there and then and got a reference. Nothing from then still sitting. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to attend to dead lines? The two days promise in the message now seems generic

They came today and said they think its the pots filter or cable to modem so going to try that and see if it improves.

Tried everything even with modem only and new cable and still resyncing and giving bad SNR

Had a dead line before and didn't take them too long they seem to prefer coming on weekends

That line is hella noisy. On a clean line, with that attenuation, you should be good for 20mbps stable adsl2+
