Wind blowing hard causing adsl to lose sync

That line is hella noisy. On a clean line, with that attenuation, you should be good for 20mbps stable adsl2+

Yep thats how it was so must be a faulty cable somewhere just to get them to fix it somehow is a pain

Last time I had a cable problem it took them 2 years of complaining to fix it

They came today and said they think its the pots filter or cable to modem so going to try that and see if it improves.

Tried everything even with modem only and new cable and still resyncing and giving bad SNR

Clueless.

Stats went to this
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 7.5 db 5.0 db
Noise Margin -2.1 db 27.0 db

Picked up the phone and it resynced back to this :p
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 7.5 db 5.0 db
Noise Margin 23.9 db 27.0 db

Since the hail storm yesterday the problem came back where at night usually I have problems syncing or connecting to the internet

Your pots filter is ****ed
Agree.
Easy way to check, unplug all devices from the telephone line and plug the modem in directly. Check the attenuation and snr then (this is what the Telkom techie did). Replaced the pots filters and my adsl is usable again.

Tried that and made no difference and changed cables and still did it and the phone has noise sometimes then sometimes it is fine for hours.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream

Line Attenuation 6.5 db 6.0 db
Noise Margin 12.4 db 18.0 db

Also think the power outages also affect it too at night

2nd day of bad noise on the phone line and resyncing and no one has come yet to fix it.

Telkom technician finally found where the problem could be and that is the cable coming from the pole to my house as when he changed some cables around, it sorted the problem out.

Holy crap you actually got them to replace it! I'm astonished.

Literally called again today and got told that "no fault will be logged because it seems like a minor network issue. Your line is not dropping RIGHT NOW." Exact words.

I'm honestly thinking about chopping that damn cable... At least now I know they do actually replace them. It's the thick black cable that comes from the pole to your house, right? I've been holding back on doing so because I was worried they wouldn't put up a new one. But hell, the thing did get hit DIRECTLY with lightning to the point the wiring inside the house exploded (no, I'm dead serious) so it pretty much has to go if i ever want working internet again.

I’ve been fighting with Telkom since last week regarding our NEW ADSL line that will not sync. We had to wait 2 months for them to do the activation and since then, we have telephone line service as well as ADSL. When we call in, are told the line is syncing on their side, we were told to test another telephone handset, tried that last night but still nothing (unable to make calls and when landline is called, the phone doesn’t ring). The house phone worked fine before they activated the ADSL. The DSL light on the modem doesn’t even light up.

Hopefully we eventually get a technician to come out and check for themselves.

He will be coming tomorrow to completely replace the black cable from the pole to the house and nope the cable isn't thick, that might be the electricity one so make sure it is coming from the telephone pole before cutting it.

You need to become friends with the regional manager for the Telkom network that is how I get technicians to come quickly and fix my problems.

He figured it out where the problem was when he used his voltmeter and it showed a huge disturbance 20 meters down the cable from the jack.

Here's the problem causing all my ADSL/Line issues, was a damaged cable.

Graham who replaced the cable and diagnosed the problem was a friendly awesome guy and we spoke about general things and problems and learnt a thing or two from me to use when he encounters a similar problem elsewhere. My latency also dropped and now is 18 ms to Durban Instead of 50 ms+ and the International latency also improved.

Line has been working perfectly for 20 hours so far and no noise on the line at all anymore, quieter than it ever was and latency is very good.

No problems at all so far and no noise on the line so that damage in the picture was the cause of my problem for years.
