Windows 7 - Updates/tips/tricks/secrets/etc

ok i was looking at this Windows 7 professional box and i don't see an activation key. I assume it was second hand (i did not check if the seal was broken) so my question is the following:

can it still be used?

do i hang the 2 discs from the mirror of my wifes car?

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is a recommended collection of updates and improvements to Windows that are combined into a single installable update. automate the defragment process.

I do this on 400 workstations & 40 servers all over Africa.

Create a batch file (open notepad and save the file as defragdaily.bat)
file contents: defrag c: /X
save the file (anywhere)

now create a scheduled task (All programs/accessories/system tools/task scheduler/task scheduler library - right-click in the middle pane and select "create basic task")
set the task to run daily (at lunch time)
run the file that you created above.
set to task to stop running after 1 hour (in-case it carries on after your workday lunch break, it will catch up on weekends).

Now, defrag will run every day at lunch time for 1 hour.
The fragmentation that occurs in one day is negligible so your drive will always be fast.

happy days!

* for multiple partitions/drives use "defrag /x /c" in the batch file.

A Defrag every day? isn't that a bit excessive?

Windows Updates have nothing to do with p0rn sites (or any other web site).
Windows Updates are simply "bug fixes" and hardware-related updates that Microsoft releases post roll-out of an App or OS.

for instance:
XP (without SP2) does not have the Windows Firewall installed or enabled.
Windows Firewall (installed & enabled by default) is a feature of XP Service Pack 2.

It works the same for all MS products.
It's always best to keep your system up to date.

Depends on what you are using the machine for. File server versus client machine etc.

lol, not really,
If a daily defrag is enabled then the amount of fragmentation that occurs in 24hours is always <3%.
This means the defrag takes <2 minutes to complete and the machine is always 100% shipshape.

If you have a computer that's a little 'old', and he accompanying driver's don't seem to work. (In my case, Dell GX280 display drivers). Instead of downloading the driver from Dell.com, I downloaded the driver from Intel's website... I repaired a friend's PC that was made by HP, I had to also download the driver from Intel instead of HP's website

I'm getting so irratated with MyBB's search function!
I'm looking for the thread where someone posted links to the ISO files for Windows 7.
I am looking for the ISO where, when installing, you choose what version you want to install - Professional, Ultimate etc and activate it after with the legal key.
I need the 32bit and 64bit ISO's

Can you guys help with that link?

Like I said, I've tried searching, but OMG, I get no where!

Those links are nearly always dead for me - Microsoft keeps changing them, but here you go:

Thanks guys!

My issue still remains though, whenever I search for something, I struggle my gat off to find it.
Back in the day, I'd search for something and find it so easy - now I can't anymore.
