Yebo 4 Less

BTW to all the skeptics (see what I did there? :D) I've seen 99% lots of times, albeit early in the morning (which makes perfect sense BTW ).

I've gone and got a Vodacom pre-paid sim card for the phone I bought from HenryJ, put on R29 and yeah, haven't used it much... ;) I wanna see this Y4L thing in action.

Oh the fanboyz come out to play tonight ...
Well as far as Slaapstad is concerned, I've never seen 99% and that's been from around 5am. If it isn't discounted at that time then it never will be.

I'll answer our obtuse ever-so helpful watchamacallit rep later.

What has that got to do with Vodacom when you use MTN?:p

This cell broadcast issue applies to both MTN and Vodacom. From the advertising point of view MTN's advertising is not very clear about what exactly MTN Zone really is and that would cause more confusion.

I'm using a Samsung phone (stop laughing) and I changed to Yebo4Less about two weeks ago but I doubt that the tarrif change went through.I say this because the Mrs has a Sony Ericcson and on the screen it always says something like Y4L = 65% and so forth, problem is my phone doesn't do any of that.I understand that it uses cell broadcast, which I did turn on but still doesn't make any difference.Called Vodacom and was told the usual "Turn off, turn on" crap they always tell me to do.

Actually in the 1st week i saw it a lot and used it a lot :) but now it seems to be getting a bit more rare.. people must be catching on :')

btw something i wanted to know which confuses me about the minimum rate on off peak, which is/was 55% voda.. is this, when is off peak? i ask as i was watching it last week-end and noticed it siting at 50% and then remembered that well.. off peak telkom and voda is different, so unlike with telkom week-ends might not be off peak?

Dial *111# and then select tariff identification.

I use all the networks so it's easy to see which is the best or the best at the moment. I'm still finding this campaign a crock. Today in Constantia (CPT) it was 0% 0% on Vodacom. Yesterday it was the same at 5am. CB doesn't work at all at home for some reason, but I've never seen anything above 40%. I'm not even subscribed and I still have to see the ads ffs.

*sigh*

As it's been mentioned time and time again, I don't see the need to repeat it yet again but for your sake I will: towers cannot broadcast to users based on what package they use. How hard is that to understand?

Exactly and this applies to both VC and MTN which some people fail to see;).

I saw 95% last night.

A number of handsets have difficulty in displaying the cell broadcasts, either over a certain length or not at all. Others get 'stuck' on a cell broadcast and won't automatically update. Even well known brands like Nokia have models where this is a problem. My HTC will not display it at all.

It could well be the Samsung above has a problem of this kind.

We went through a whole process to try and get a cell-broadcast that *most* handsets would display. The initial intended message read something like:
Vodacom Yebo4less pre-paid subscribers in the area where you are currently in, is on a discount structure of xx% off-net and yy% on-net. Please note this message is only applicable to pre-paid users and not to contract or hybrid users. If you are unsure of any of this, please call the call-desk. If you do not want to receive these messages, you can turn off cell-broadcast on your handset.
Special message to Skeptik; please read the above again and if you still don't understand, read it again. No really, read it again. No one is forcing you to use this product. No one is forcing you to subscribe to Yebo4Less. If you don't like the messages YOU can turn it off on your phone YOURSELF. If you don't know how your phone works, please dial 111 from your phone and ask. It's free.

But some phones battled with this, slightly longer, message so we eventually had to settle for the very short one you see on your phone:
Y4L xx% Voda. yy% Ot

Apologies if this is too cryptic for some. Please take it up with your handset manufacturer. ;)

I don't think countering a valid criticism with personal sarcasm is appropriate. As customers, we view this as arrogance and intolerance to criticism as evidenced by the flood of fanboyz and employees who emerge from the closet to defend mother.

I/we fully understand the situation and the fact that Vodacom never lets a marketing opportunity slip by.

When will Vodacom understand the customer/supplier relationship in it's entirety. We pay for a service - they supply it. We don't suddenly become roaming billboards and SPAM traps. Capisce?

Roaming billboards?

Agh shame, like Saule has just mentioned to you, just turn off Cell Broadcasting if you don't wanna be "bombarded" () with CB messages.

Seems to me that you have a personal grudge with Vodacom or someone that works there (maybe even v3g) because you continually find any excuse to knock them. IMO, if you're not gonna offer constructive criticism, please just STFU.
