Zest T1

Do yourself a favour and buy a proper phone, it won't be much more expensive. Check out the Orange ZA store http://store.orange.com/za for some really great prices.

I am regretting my purchase and am seriously considering this. I doubt I would be able to get a refund from Zest though. :(

They seem to be only assisting people that are on Facebook (which I am not). Their email on their Facebook page ([email protected]) sends back an error "No Such User Here". I have tried emailing Debbie and David (Debbie's email on the Zest website). There is one more email address left for me to try.

I just see they also updated their contact numbers - literally some time this evening it must have been. I might try those tomorrow.

I'm going to go and torture myself and look at the phones I should have looked at in the first place on the Orange site. -_-

Hi Twiggles,

this will teach me to buy unknown phones. Given that I don't have a dual-sim device, nor a 3G modem, I now have a useless device and data that I paid R1999 for. The MTN reception in my area is so pathetic I'm lucky if I get edge, while I enjoy at least 3G on Vodacom.

Anybody in the market for a Zest T1 in good condition? Zest case black included but not used.

Good idea. I'm going to give that a try. Thanks :)

That is extremely frustrating. I'm pretty much stuck on Edge where I am with MTN, but you must be pulling your hair out! I hope you can sort something out with it - sell it, make a stress test youtube video with it...anything!

Update to my Zest T1 repairs saga:

Thank you AfriMan, the Afrihost support team, Matthew from Zest Mobile and Terence from Zest Mobile. Seriously. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I contacted both Matthew and AfriMan (this morning and last night respectively). The two of them were quite prompt in their responses, and Matthew gave me Terence's details. A quick call and now I know that a Cape Town workshop will be opening on Monday (Tuesday if there are delays) and I can get the details from Terence then.

Not sure what was up with the communications from David and Debbie, but as soon as I tried contacting AfriMan and Matthew, things moved fine.

Holding thumbs that the actual repair will go well. We shall see...

Terrible experience with Zest. I informed them of the problem, they replied, then suddenly stopped (like they had enough of me).
Finally resorted to Afriman, and like always, he is super! He made things move quickly.
Their warehouse contacted me and they are now sending our favourite dreaded courier to pick up my phone (that now does not even switch on). They said that they will repair or replace it depending on their analysis upon inspection.

Overall I'm happy with Afrihost's service, highly disappointed with Zest (I am still waiting for a reply from them as to what I should do after factory resetting my phone, I think they hope that it would have sorted itself out if they ignore it for long enough).

Does the SIM that Afrihost provided only work in the Zest?
I sold the Zest and kept the SIM. I put it in an old S3 to use for dedicated nav in the car, and while it registers on the MTV network - there is zero data.

Any ideas?

I think you need to change the APN, did you try that?

the pdf repartitioning instructions keep on talking about NO battery. Is this right?

Absolutely correct! everything starts happening when you plug in the USB cable.

I feel a little left out. I really like this phone and the deal Afrihost had was perfect for me. I didn't want a contract or a new sim card. The extra data per month is welcome.

I must mention, the first Zest I received had big problems. It was shutting down whenever I put it down on a hard surface. Afrihost took their sweet time to replace it (5 days), but they did replace it and the new phone doesn't have the same issues.

The biggest problem with this phone is the limited internal storage. You install just some basic apps and it's full. Grrrrr. And if you do an update, The update installs some new **** that just kills the little space you had left.

All in all, the phone does what it was meant to do. It plays Zen Pinball ;)

There's an update on the Zest website.
