As background info:
We travel off road and need to be connected to answer enquiries via email. We prefer to be connected most of the time but accept this is not possible all the time. (Satelite internet as not an option).
As an example: The other day we stayed over in Franschhoek. 5 ks out of town, it was overcast and raining; we could not get any 3G from MTN, Vodacom or Cell C.
At other times we may get faint signals on gravel roads we travel or where we stop we may get faint or no signal. We can always try and find a place with better signal, but this is not always the case.
I contacted Poynting and they sent me quotes for a high gain direction plus coupling device as well as an omni directional antenna.
Reading the forums I could not really establish which of omni or directional is best for my case. I am getting the feeling that the omni will work in a rural setting to boost signal. And the high gain directional better for my application.
The high gain directional have various options and it seems not to be an easy one to use as it needs to be pointed in the direction of the tower. Finding the tower does not look easy and does it mean I need to get some or other measuring device?
Your advice on the best possible solution would be great:

on the modem. My understanding is limited but I am sure I will get to understand it.
