Telkom ADSL charges (dobroadband)

Quick question for any of the telkom ADSL subscribers - dobroadband specifically.

Is the price as advertised on the website (dobroadband level 3) R554 vat inclusive, I know the information further on in the info quotes a price for the modem as being vat inclusive?

How is your bill broken down? It is quite clear that the dobroadband offering includes the adsl line rental + your bandwidth but excludes the voice line rental part?

The reason I am asking this is that I recently requested an upgrade from the old 512k service to this product. At the time of ordering I was quoted some other price wherupon I pointed them to there dobroadband products site and queried the vat inclusivity which I was informed that price was.

I have now received my first bill and have been charged the following for which I expected to pay R554 VAT INCL

DSL Fastest 21 May 08 - 20 Jun 08 R362.28
TI-AllAccess Advanced 3GB Jun 08 R209.65

Total 571.93 excl R652 incl nearly R100 more than expected.

I have queried this with their billing dept, only to be treated as if I was an idiot and was missing the point about the additional voice line rental which I pointed out was itemised seperately R98.16. Hmmm think I see their trick that is the overcharge amount. Just answered my own question I think.

Still like to get confirmation from some else out there.

Look closely they charge for the ADSL line and TI-Allaccess at the normal rate but there is a credit in a different section of your account statement which reduces it to the advertised amount

Part of it would've been a pro-rata amount too. Take that into account when reading your bill as well dude.

The only credits I see are for the overlap of the charges for the rental on the previous month. Or are you saying these discounts applied every month?

The figures I quoted are for 1 months line rental + access charges and I expect to see these from now on without the discounts applied as the discounts apply to the portion of the previous month where I was charged for both the old and new service and they deducted the overpayment for the old service. This is very different to the advertised do broadband bundle that I specifically requested.

Mine is also like this but there is a part where it says dobroadband closer 3.

Even the applied credits do not make sense as they apply to the ADSL and voice line rental - why the voice line telkom alone knows. I expect to see the last 3 items from now onwards.

My objection is to the last 2 items as they do not approach the do broadband advertised price of R554 which I was told was VAT inclusive when I queried it. Am I just being dumb and missing something here?

Mine looks the same under the HUUR section on page 5. But on page 3 there is a AFSLAG section which says Do Broadband 3 with a credit of R85.96

I was looking on telkoms online bill at the "detailed invoice" Detailed WTF. THere is another link "Phone book detail" HUH!!! that could only make sense to someone at Telkom brings up some additional details including the R85 discount.

The pro rata stuff still doesn't make sense but it's not worth my time or health to resolve a once off (hopefully) mess.

the advertised amount is the amount you pay regardless of what you worked out. Telkom adds it in the bill as singles and them applies line credits and discounts so for do broadband to work out to R554, there is a credit called Do Broadband level 3 discount and tahts how you get to your advertised pricing

Basically they instead of making it easy and charge what they advertise they make it complicated and add discounts and other credits to make it correct

Yeah at the end of the day it's mostly correct. Just a small overcharge because they have not applied a pro-rated discount to the partial charges over the previous period. The reversals have been applied over a one day lesser period than the actual charges but hey that's just being pedantic hehe.
Not going to fight those - it's not worth my sanity.
