No ADSL ports for me!!

Hi guys i applied for an ADSL line about 3 months ago. I have a normal line and had ADSL on it for a while then switched to HSDPA.
I want to go back to ADSL now but TELKOM keeps telling me: "eeehmm weee hav nooo more ports available at your exchange"

WTF!!!!!!!!!!! dammit, what the hell do i do now! I said to the guy well create one more! He said: "No sir they are limited?!?!"

Someone help me please this is driving me insane i want that ADSL line, I've threatend to blow up the exhange in my area so they have to create new ports, they said: "Well that would be a crime sir!" :mad:
 
Now you can get WiMax!

Ask them if you have WiMax coverage, then get WiMax and you can get rid of your telephone line.

Price?!?! I read something like what R500+ whatever
 
Is is R240 per month for 512kbps, then you need to add data to that from any ISP at around R60 per GB. Plus you don't have to pay R124 for your telephone line if you get rid of it.

Sounds good, but will i be able to make phone calls over wimax? My alarm system needs to dial out atleast.
The wimax modem? how much is that? Can i buy a 3rd party one ie not telkoms crap

I think phonecalls over WiMax might be possible, otherwise you will need to keep your phone line. Installation costs around R500 and includes your antenna and modem, which Telkom will take back if you cancel your WiMax. I don't think you need a contract.

The question you must ask is why did you drop ADSL for HSDPA??? You know there are a limited number of ADSL ports on each exchange so you can't blame Telkom for that one(which it appears you are trying to do!) Also don't threaten to blow up the exchange, that is a typical african attitude of "If I can't have then no one can!"

LOL my gosh i wasnt really going to blow up the exchange! Just like i'm not a ninja slashing warrior like some ppl, typical europian attitude, if i want to be a ninja i'll go to school and slash away! (dont be racist)

I cancelled because i had to travel for 2 months and wasnt going to pay for a line i do not use, i travelled with my laptop and used HSDPA thats the only reason i cancelled. Its just strange that a customer wants to pay for something they sell but they are "out of stock" and refuse to get more "stock." I wasn't aware that the number of ports in my area wasn't enough, i didnt think alot of ppl in my area would have ADSL seeing as its mostly old ppl.

Anyone know what iburst's cheapest Wimax price is, just the rental no ISP
 
I think with Iburst's WiMax, you must use them as your ISP. Luckly they are alot more expensive. Get Telkom WiMax and your own ISP. I think that is what everybody is doing anyways. :D

Yeah was just checking, iburst is slower so i thought it would be cheaper. But if they're coming with the lockin ISP contract nonsence they can go play in the sand!
 
the lesson here....

1)dont ever get rid of your ADSL unless you are 100% happy with the replacement! Even if you are not going to use it cause you might never get it back!

2) watch out for ninjas in schools!

1) Its sad how a company has a whole country straved for internet like that! :confused::mad:

Well not really, it just shows that the Telkom product is better and more stable than anything out there. If Telkom provide a product that can do that, Kudos to them. If Neotel or anyone else come up with a better ADSL product Kudos to them too. If you dont like Telkom, go somewhere else. There are so many companies offering connectivity to the net.

You make a brilliant point. Telkom's very economy (if you could call it that) thrives off of being "good enough." They certainly won't go out of their way for you, they won't offer you anything miraculous, fantastic, worthwhile or even prototypical. What they will do, however, is be just "good enough" to make them a better option.

They're a company with no other purpose than to be abhorred. The scariest thing though, is that Telkom could really be great if it wanted to. It has the finances to make everyone "wow." But the thing is, they'd never do that, because if they did they might actually stand to be respected in their field.
 
If i were u, i would find my closest neighbor who has adsl, and split the costs with him for the adsl line rental and share a line. It's easy enough to do with a wireless router or 2 :)

Im pretty sure that is not "legal" but it would basically be impossible to prove

Good idea indeed. Especially if it is a slow line. Then you can bump it to 1M or something and still get the same performance out of it as before.

2 wireless routers in WDS mode might work, although I'm not sure if PPPOE still works then...

I dont talk to my neighbours and i dont know them, know their faces but thats that :( I hate begging 2 :o So its wimax for me it seems
