I just want to know if it is worth fighting since MTN has billed me an extra R400.00 for data even though 200mb of data rolled over. When I called they gave me a reference number and told me to phone back in a week. This is feeling futile.

Don't bother. They will just deduct the money anyway. No replies to queries.
Rollover!! That Rollover is only because your bundle was not updated every day. Perhaps every 6 days and for only the previous days usage. The rest is out of bundle for a later surprise.
I have reported them to ICASA and will post any developments here.

My totalizer has not updated now for 6 days so I have no clue as to what I have left.

i saw on my invoice for end June - I've been charged 247 for data out of bundle usage.
anyone know how to put a stop on debit order at standard bank?

If only everyone who this has happened to could stand together and find a lawyer to represent them in court. This hasn't happened to me but to my fiance and a good mate. It must have happened to thousands of people! Something has to be done about this blatant crime MTN is getting away with.

Why can MTN not take responsibility for their mistake and fix it????

I have an Anytime350 contract and the surplus value has been rolled over every month since the contracts inception, currently I have over R1000 value remaining.

My question: Is the unused rand value not rolled over for a maximum of 2 months?

You can do it, but it's a once-off thing, you have to do it again every month.
The best is to stop the debit order at the source, in this case MTN.

I have also discovered that my unused free minutes on my package 'disappeared'.

I should file for breach of contract I think ;-)
Can one open a case at police for stolen money/minutes/data bundles?

After 45 minutes waiting for the callcentre I had to hang up.
A few months ago the waiting time was about 5 minutes. Shows you how many people are complaining.
All I wanted was my bundle balance as their totalizer is not working.
It still after 8 days shows I have the same amount left so I don't know when to stop. This is cr@p as they make me go over bundle as I have no idea of my usage.

ICASA has not replied to my query about this. They have no backbone.
Think of it this way.
You hire a car with 300km free per day. You stop at 300km. When you come to pay, they say the odometer in the car is faulty so they tracked you via satallite and you did 500km per day.
Are you liable for this? I think not.
This is what MTN is doing to us.

The newspaper"Mail and Guardian" helped me with a case against the Education Dept. some years ago. We won the case free of charge and they supplied the lawyer who flew down from Jhb to Cape Town for the case.
Perhaps this is the way to go. All they want in return is newscoverage and photos of you. They love to expose the Co.'s doing the people in.

Leave this up to me. I will contact the editor.

My Complaint to Icasa & MTN

Good day,

I wish to raise a complaint against MTN for billing me incorrectly for services not rendered.

Firstly on the 22 May I had contacted the MTN helpline to load an AD-HOC 100mb data bundle.

The operator confirmed that a 100mb bundle has been loaded on and will become effective within a few hours.

After a few hours I checked the balance and saw it only allocated my about 12mb of data. I then called the call centre again to tell them of the incident. They again said the full 100mb data will be in my account and it would take about 24hours to be effective.

After 24 hours no data was added to my account. On the 26 of may is my monthly allocation date for data. I was allocated my usual 500mb of data which I normally subscribe to. When I received my bill. I found that I was charged R80 for the full 100mb of data which I never received. Since I did receive about 12mb of data then that is what I should be paying for. I am seeking a refund of R70.17 for being overbilled and R30 for a prepaid card which I had to purchase to use the internet due to MTN inconviencing me.

A complaint has already been lodged with MTN and the reference number is : 49643915

Ironically when I called the helpline. A recorded message stated MTN is aware of billing issues and the credits will be passed.

The issue of billing should seriously be visited by ICASA and tough measures put in place.

Telecom Operators are just taking money from the public at their own free will which is extortion.

If the billing system isn’t right that particular operator should be fined heavily and customers rewarded with double their spend by the network at fault.
