Neotel says 15 Mbps WiMAX speeds possible

What is the difference between a peak speed and a peak rate?
 
WOW.... i wud love to trial out that service....

Hope that Durban will be well covered by the Wimax Service
 
if only their service and network quality was also inline with '15Mbps', no good if you render something and there isn't enough pipe for the gravy.

Multi-segment means that it uses multiple frequencies at once.

Now, I wonder:
- how many segments are available to one tower already overloaded with users
- if Netoel has been able to prevent a case of too many users from causing all users on the tower to suffer
- if Neotel can give us live data usage figures yet

15Mb/s without control is nice, but, something that I'm going to avoid. The last thing I want is to be forced to take out a loan because of a virus/worm/spambot and Neotel data usage policies.
 
Haha, Neotel. Pull the other leg too. Let's not forget CDMA's 3.1Mbps "peak speeds" you bang on about constantly, when most customers are getting 0.3Mbps if they are lucky.

Real PITY though, because this is a step in the right direction for broadband in SA. More packages means more competition and gradually prices WILL come down, but it sucks knowing there's a 2Mbps uncapped, symmetrical service at your fingertips, but that it costs an arm and leg that you simply can't justify sacrificing for it.
 
To achieve 15mbps you'd need to be very close to the Wimax tower to have a great upstream speed, that is probably why they said "up to" because that speed won't be maintained if your upload can't get through (which is what is wrong with mos wireless products, nothing wrong with their tower *mostly* it's that your signal from your PC to their tower is too tiny to sustain all the ACK you need to make for all the packets you receive)

They're probably going to sell a booster antenna of somekind with their wimax solution to you...

In South Africa we dream of winning the lotto, so we can finally have true broadband internet.
In a developed country, true broadband internet is about as accessible to all as running tapwater.

The difference is in the peak speak - that is: how often and at what velocity companies can make convoluted promises and claims of imminent offerings in the broadband sphere.
 
We shouldn't get stuck on the 15Mbps but rather on the 5Mpbs part.

If they can guarantee those speeds it will place Telkom under even more pressure to scrap a service like their 384Kbps lines and make 1Mbps the standard ADSL line.

Positive things happening in the market. The wheel is slowly but surely turning.
 
What ever, I no longer believe the majority of what I read.
I prefer to be pleasantly surprised on the very rare occasions that these pipe dreams to come true
