MWEB, IS to cut over to SEACOM bandwidth this weekend

Thanks for the update :) I'm sure everyone is looking forward to this. Fingers crossed it won't happen again any time soon.

Internet Solutions (IS) said that they are currently testing SEACOM’s restored services, and will start to migrate their clients onto their ‘previous’ SEACOM paths during the course of the weekend.

IS is currently testing SEACOM, however will only migrate clients onto the previous path during the course of the weekend...
 Staff Writer :wtf:

I Must say, Axxess and Mweb (My 2 service providers) coped quite well and I only had 3 or 4 days without international connection on torrents. I Can't wait for the new cables to land in SA so that we may see a even bigger decrease in fees. JC

It's save to cut over to Seacom. The universities have been "testing" it the whole day at more than 1Gbps

Thanks TENET!!!

There was a 20min(?) glitch around 14h30, so SEACOM may not be fully stable:

TENET have all their international bandwidth through one fibre AFAIK, so its probably easier to switch over. They also don't have to worry about upsetting 'high priority' business users...

For TENET, the universities ARE their "'high priority' business users". You only have to be at a university when there's no bandwidth to understand that.

40 minutes to go......come on already, I need some new stuff to watch :)

whats concerning though is how the ocean currents are carrying the cable around. Probably what caused the break. I think Seacom will still see its ass. The ocean is a rough place, that cable aint just gonna lie there and behave.

All my MWEB bandwidth just went down? What gives... I want internet! Now... How long is the switch gonna take?

NVM... Fixed...

Me too. I switched to my Axxess prepaid when it went down at first. Hopefully it will be up in the next few minutes.
