Hi All,
Have a problem here. There are 2 users playing BF2 off a single ADSL line at my house. We got the 2nd PC upgraded at the end of last month (BF2 is demanding) and tried connecting both simultaneously and voila! We were happening. Pings of around 40-80, smiles all round . Then from the 1st September we can no longer play at the same time. If 1 is online, then the pings to SGS are around 40 again, but as soon as the other pc logs into an online game, the pings go through the roof, 800-1000+. Is it because we are on a shaped account and everyone is punishing their accounts at the start of the month? I have scanned for viruses etc and apart from us, nothing seems to be using our network.
FYI
Shaped 10GB Axxess on 192kbps line (tested speed and is very very healthy for 192 kbps)

battlefield 2 is a bandwidth hog so maybe 192 isnt enough to run 2 games @ the same time. I know you said that you used to be able to play 2 perfectly, but that could be because your 192 was actually goin faster than 192. Many people(including me) where experiencing speeds of 32kB/256kb before 1st sept. Now the speeds back down to 192

Thanks rburly, will test our speed again as soon as my house-mate has logged off SGS. We can upgrade to a 384, but I'd like an opinion from someone more knowledgable than myself as to whether we will both be able to game on a 384. We also has speeds of around 256kb so I assume a 384 will do the trick?

you will never run 2 player at 192

192/2

i dont think that 12 k down

4k up is enough

upgrade to 384 and you will be fine

Thanks! Its fantastic to have a fast-fire forum to turn to! Will upgrade asap! :D

LOL
Allow me to introduce my lurking self!
I am a BF2 addict whose only commitment to the cause has been screaming at Telkoms Support Managerial staff. So far I have 3 scalps, all 3 have called me back to offer apologies.
Hangabout, just did a speed test and results are as follows:
Your line speed is approximately 276.9 Kbps or 33.9 kBytes/sec
So, please calm my BF2-ridden nerves and tell me one more time, will upgrading to 384 enable us both to get our fix simultaneously?

not to be funny, I think 512k minimum for 2 users ie. 50k+ capable line. BF2 may work fine alot of times in certain areas but 64 player map will crunch down 20-30k/s per user easily.

If you upgrade to 384k, there is a chance ull get 512k speed, so its a possibility :)

I play 2 people on a 384k line, its fine, even when the there are lots of players.

Sometimes I get some stuttering, but thats the PC, I onyl have a AMD 2600+ and a 6800 standard, 512MB RAM

rsachoc - I suspect you probably getting 512k speed on your 384k line.

ram. bf2 LOVES ram... 1gb ram should be enough, but 512 struggles

rburley remember your vga card is only as fast as your cpu

would have spent your money better on a 6600 gt and 1 gig more ram would get better performance

but i do agree with clipse amazingly lol 512 would be better there isnt much of a price difference

what isp are you with?

hopefully your with axxess or something like that

Not really, the max I download at is around 40k. Used to be 512k speeds, but has "changed" back now

you get stuttering with a 6800?

Its only really when the map loads, and sometimes when I enter a plane or something, I suspect I need a gig of RAM as mentioned earlier.

BTW my nick on BF2 is snipa_jimbo, say hello if you see me

@ Megageth:

I'm on 384, and my test results are as follows:
Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

* Download time: 8.422 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 484.4 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 59.4 (kiloBytes/second)
