Born from this thread lets start coming up with ideas about what we can do, and who we can involve. I think [before the NHI kicks in], we need to show these lazy incompetent people we have to call our "leaders" that we've now reached a point where enough is enough.

What can we do:
* We can start going Viral, on Facebook and Twitter and news media, and we get everyone that is affected by this [even non-gauteng people] to be involved
* We need to get hold of Cosatu/All oposition parties/Private companies to join us
* We need to get the word out
* We need to arrange a massive protest at Gov's doorstep
* We need to burn down some shlt :p

* Contact trucking companies that use this road and organise them to come to a complete stop on the highway.
* Mass agreement to not use the highway.
* Tear down the poles that house the cameras. (I haven't sent hem but could a bakkie with a chain take it down?)
* Deface the roads/gov buildings (by deface I do not mean break, but rather use paint to write a message).
* Get a petition going (maybe there is one already??)

Post ideas here. I think everyone needs to push this as hard as we can, We need to show government that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

If taxis, which is PRIVATE RUN COMPANIES, EXEMPT FROM TAX does not have to pay, why do we?

EDIT: Please sticky

I've noticed a number of facebook groups have sprung up - but a few hundred on this one, some more on that.... not sure how to get them all to amalgamate.

What to do - just don't pay.

1st order of business. Is there anyone willing to start a website for us? Just to provide as much info on this as we can. and be a central point of all info/communication?

@daveza: if we have a website, we'll ask all those groups to join in one.

Protesting the toll road is a small part of what needs to be brought to the gov attention. But we need to start somewhere and the toll roads effect a lot of people immediately so,

I don't have good website creating skills :(

If someone is willing to do the development, I will organize a domain.

The problem is that most of us are stuck in 8-5 jobs, so where do we find the time to protest? Our employers will certainly not agree for us to stay away to do this. I think we need to put a little more thought into it - for instance, are people willing to use their paid leave or go on unpaid leave, if your employer approves your leave at all?

Mass stay away, I keep saying....let Guvamunts lose, vat, tax & whatever for a few days!

I think we need to start a petition to keep the fees as they are so that we can keep the poor masses off the highways.

I know, I know, that sounds stupid but hear me out. COSATU was up in arms about this very issue- they were saying that the highways are only going to be for the rich minority. Our only hope is to get organisations like Cosatu involved (which they are already to some degree) because lets face it- most middle to upper class citizens are pretty apathetic. They will moan and complain but little will be done.
So we start pretending like we want it to be an exclusive thing and get the poor majority so pissed off that they do all the work.....

the other thing is to make sure they have to bill you- dont sign the debit order or get a prepaid card (even if its discounted.) There is absolutely no way for them to administrate this, so they are hoping for people to cooperate. If they have to send out bills, and follow up, they will sink

The problem is it won't be seen as a rich vs. poor thing, but will be turned into a white vs. black thing.

"These highways, they were built for the white people. We must take back everything from these evil imperialists - the highways, their land and their jobs."

Have heard this elsewhere. Sign up for the E-Tag, but don't load any cash on it. Then they need to send you the bills... If EVERYONE does this, too many bills need to be sent, adding to admin/actual work done, which means it'll fail.

What back road routes are available?

Sympathies from us down here- most likely a matter of time for us.. :(

How do i get my car registered as a taxi to get it exempt from the tax? :D

we got a summons once for overloading our taxi- some duch was using our number plate.... oh well, maybe we can get it to work to our advantage :D

The best solution is if we all stand together and not pay. Are they going to arrest 150000 people? We have the money and we also have the leverage

for the petition ... you can try any of the free ones online(just search on google for petition) .. and maybe get your website to link to it.
