The estimated cost of the exercise in self glorification is around R400m - can this be possible.

60 Mansions hired by dept. of International Co-Operation & development @ R35 000 + p/n (tax payers money)
The Blue Train & Premiere Classe trains chartered for the event.

Tell me this is not true, but a case of journalists gone bad, - but quick before the matter is deemed a "state secret".

Who funded this event?
who donated money to this event?
what does it mean to me when they say "the taxpayer foots the bill"?
If we "foot the bill" is it tax deductible and can I get a receipt?
Can I tell my childs school that the reason I fell behind with the school fees is that I paid for the ANC party?
 
By the amount of ambulances and ER cars constantly monitoring the place, I'm not surprised. It's worse than all the defibrillators around each and every corner at Houston Intl. airport. :p
 
Imagine how many houses they could have built with that kind of money, yet, the people who vote for them still believes they have their best interests at heart

Inside, ANC leaders enjoy Moët et Chandon champagne in massive quantities. No one, it seems, has ever tasted the fabulous qualities of the vast array of South African sparkling wine. Somebody should deface the ANC's website (once again :p) and put that on the front page.
 
i sometimes wonder of they are aware that they are destroying this country.
 
Assuming there are only 40 million of us in this country (to simplify the maths), we only paid R10 each. No biggie.

Think number of tax payers, not citizens. Maybe 4m tax payers, so R100 each. I can think of better things to spend R100 on.
 
I love some inserting random fact stats:

For R400 000 000:
You can have 1 party for the elite.
You could build over 4000 homes.
You could pay those EC teachers there owed salaries 26 times.
You could buy 3400 ford figos (rather than mercs for everyone right?) .
You could probably feed 40 000 families for a year.
You could provide over 80 000 solar panels (200W) to the communities that struggle with electricity (effectively creating an extra 16MW for SA - you could even choose to put this onto robots to increase return by having to pay eskom less).
You could give 54 000 people free uncapped 1MBps line for a year.

My personal favourite:
The ANC would have to save R11 000 a day since it's creation 100 years ago to pay this bill.

I think there are few who are aware of it. The train is good, so make money now while you can because in a few years it will be someone elses problem.

The problem is that this obscene amount of money is used for a celebration which only a fraction of the population is attending. This amount of money could be put to far better use. We're talking about close to half a billion Rand here - for a gov that says there is no money left for RDP housing they sure manage to spare no expense on a celebration.
 
I'm not suprised at all by the vulgarity of all of this. Dismayed, yes. But not surprised.

It seems to me there's an element of spite or retribution in all of this spending by the ANC leadership. They want to show all those whiteys that they are big dogs now and they want to cram in all the luxuries that the white man has had for centuries in the space of a couple of years.
