TV series and movies on-demand for South Africa

I hope this works like Netflix and not like iTunes

Netflix? You like old outdated TV Shows and Movies?

And the first paragraph of the article said "rent or buy", so it is like iTunes

Like Netflix, as in pay a monthly charge and watch whatever they have, whenever I have time to watch things,
instead of like iTunes that is similar to pay per view.

And yes I actually do like old shows sometimes. I watch new movies when they're showing at a cinema (no I've never had any issues with loud people etc)

The only problem would be new tv shows like Walking Dead, Dr. Who and Game of Thrones (assuming your assertion that there are absolutely no new shows on Netflix ever, is true)

Netflix generally gets shows after they appear on DVD.
iTunes is generally just after they show on broadcast TV.

HBO, you're just out of luck on. It appears on iTunes at the same time it appears on DVD. And Netflix much later

You can use iTunes without VPN.
But this would be better (If their selection is as good)

Major problem is bandwidth prices in SA, unless the movies are super cheap it makes the overall proposition prohibitively expensive.

All-inclusive cost of 1Mbps ADSL is less than DSTV premium, and depending on how much and what type of content the user watches, ADSL could be better value for money (as better content could be provided and other use cases are possible). 1 is guaranteed to get cheaper, the other has a history of staying the same price.
 
Had a look on the site and it seems this has DRM so I'll pass.

When I buy something I expect to own it.
 
They'd have to do what Telkom was testing last time.. i.e. where they use a different pppoe session/apn(mobile) to service requests etc and cost of vid has to cover the cost of delivery.

Netflix would be a far better alternative but PQ on my iPad through a VPN was atrocious.A real pity.
 
I can forsee alot of us TV Show downloaders jumping onto this provided :

1) We can afford the Samsung TV
2) 1080p with AC-3 DD5.1 or better (suppose AAC :/) maaaybe DTS but pipedream
3) NO DRM
4) Ability to move it around devices (perhaps Samsung devices only but pref not)
5) Pricing in-line with iTunes
6) A bundled option (12 month contract) that includes ADSL the works.

:)
 
Why doesn't someome launch box office without the DSTV portion?

So a dish, LNB and a set top box with huge HDD?
Isn't satellite quick on the downloads anyway?

I hate this PC and downloading from the Internet

With media, you are generally buying a license to watch it once or multiple time. You are not actually buying the movie.
Not that I like DRM either
