US survey reveals future smartphone buying plans

I reckon the biggest motivation to switch to an iPhone for me personally, would be timely updates. But I'm on a Nexus device now, so hopefully I won't need to. Although I have often considered buying an iDevice, it would be more of a toy than a replacement for my Android stuff. I quite enjoy the Android environment, to be honest.
 
Therein lies the Win8 gap i.e the 34% undecided Android fans and 18% Apple fans (23% (not committed to iPhone) less 5% planning to switching to Android).

My guess is that by end 2013, Windows will have at least 15% of the US market share and 20% of the international smartphone market share.

Does the average Joe know the difference between WP7 and WP8? Why would their market share suddenly climb like that?

lol that's not gonna happen, maybe 5% if they do well.

You can't really think MS will sell 140 million phones next year? that's ridiculous

What the f do u use an iPod touch for? That's one purchase I've never understood.......
 
Nearly 1 in every 5 Android users plan iphone switch, because 2001 Americans sets the trend for the world. So let it be written, so let it be done. :rolleyes:
 
Updating through KIES is a major frustration and I hear a lot of people complaining about it.
Apple's updating and fixing procedures might be a factor.
But to me the turn off with Apple is the cost of their apps, and their draconian policies over control of the app store.
It is also much easier to load media (almost any type of media) onto my Android device.
 
It must be users of cheap Android phones that talks about going to iPhone because I just cannot see a person using a Galaxy S2/S3/Note or HTC One X/S user wanting to go back to an iPhone. Those so loyal to their iPhones have probably never really used an Android phone in the same class. The iPhone 5S is awesome ... until you use a S3/OneX/Note. All of a sudden that small screen looks ridiculous and the device feels too thick and heavy.
 
Yeh I agree with BeVonk, the newer Android devices have started leaving the iPhone behind a bit - I doubt users of 1.2GHz-plus multi-core Android devices are missing the iPhone that much. iPhone5 of course is going to change that again most likely but for the moment prior to that launch Droids are rocking!

Then again, the Apple UI is still slightly easier, the sync (provided you have an Apple environment to sync to) a bit easier and more comprehensive for the average user... so maybe it's these users that are reflected in that 1 in 5?

I needed an iPod for music (car and home). Bought a alarm clock dock and a big sound system dock which are awesome and look good. iPod Classic looked boring so I got a Touch. I dont regret getting a Touch. It does everything I need and does it well. I'd just never have it as a primary device (iPhone).

I doubt it, They have such a small hardware support range, and none of the branding of Apple, or the awesomeness of Google.
 
I think on a very odd and basic level iOS is living up to its expectations better than Android. It might be a reality distortion field or whatnot. Unfortunately I think the operators are really going to set the landscape for at least the next five years on mobile communication devices.
 
Well I had the HTC Desire HD, piece of junk, so I moved to the iPhone 4 after about 11 month with the DHD, then I got irritated with the tiny screen, so I moved to the SGS 3 after 10 months. So far the SGS 3 is great, with some irritations compared to the iPhone, but I think if I had a SGS 1 or 2 to start with, would never have gone to iPhone.

To me there are two phones Samsung and Apple, the rest I steer clear of. I find the Apple eco system still better overall though, so I won't get rid of my other iDevices and Macs, but because the phone can operate as an island, I will keep the SGS 3, since the screen makes a big difference.

That is very much a possibility.

Remember your dear ol' Sammy and HTC are all keen on making something of WP8.

Look at the stats. You will see that WP turned a corner already before the release of WP8. What more with the release.
 
I need a device that's a seamless extension of my business pc. I'm hoping w8 will do the trick but went down the winmob road years ago so expectations are moderate.

BB comes close to that seamless interaction
