Samsung Chief Hero brings cheap dual-sim capabilities to Africa

Oh Pshaw! I see that Apple has had this feature out since 2015 already...
 
Hopefully this will take off and become a standard feature on all handsets. There are a lot of markets for this - roamers, people with a private and work phone, people cherry-picking peak and off-peak pricing etc.

An interesting variation would be to allow a voice and a data sim so we could stick an 8TA Big Data sim into our smartphones.

Think about it -- generally the flagship phones get bought on contract, contracts are subsidised by the cell operators (expecting you'll run up nice fat out-of-bundle charges...), why would they subsidise a model where you're likely to stick a competitor's SIM with minimal inconvenience?

That would be pretty cool, but I imagine running 2 radios + a full smartphone, is going to kill battery life.

Good point. We wouldn't need to swap SIM cards if we had a truly competitive mobile market. We're getting there, slowly but surely, thanks to Cell C.

I'd rather pay low rates, then have to hunt for free minutes, free airtime, specials, low network usage zones, and off-peak bonuses.
 
i have always commented about dual sims being introduced because really in the prepaid market people carry and use multi SIMs. I would recommend independent cellphone distribution channels to carry dual SIMs in their product range and they will make a killing.
