SNO to plough on despite Eskom retraction

I hate that the gov likes keeping its fingers in every single pie.
 
government is dumb

so government doesn't want the SNO to owns its own infrastructure, yet it let Telkom keep the infrastructure thats was in place before Telkom was semi-privatized

Why doesn't the government form their infrastructure leasing company and take all assets before telkom was privatized and all the infrastructure of eskom and rent this to Telkom and the SNO.

This will allow the SNO easy access to 'last mile' customers and provide better competition.

Stupid I tell you , this country is run by idiots.
 
Sources say government is in the process of establishing its own infrastructure holdings company, which will then lease the network to the SNO at cost plus 4%.

The aim of leasing the infrastructure to the SNO, it is claimed, is to ensure that government plays a potent role in driving prices down.

What BS is that. Why dont they just play a "potent" role in bringing down prices now afterall they do own the most shares in telkom? Is it because they are so greedy but when we call them fat cats they find it offensive ? :D

Sources say government is already in talks with Tata, which is said to have expressed interest in acquiring 26% of the new firm. Government will own the 74% stake.

Telkom is said to be unhappy with this arrangement as it wants the infrastructure company to be wholly owned by government.

It is said that Telkom fears that if the SNO owns a stake in the new company, it could lease the network at cheaper rates.

Telkom spokeswoman Lulu Letlape referred queries to the communications department.

The department says it is not aware of any plan to establish a new infrastructure company.

Well - there you have it: telkom runs government and the communications department is their PRO.
 
Managed liberalisation, its all about introducing competition, at governments pace.
Theres still going to be a moerse stink regarding the interpretation of this 'pricing at cost'.

The way I see it is the government (ltd) will determine what that 'cost' is. (taking their investments into consideration and doing some financial gymnastics)
My bet is as with anything our government does, this will be a long winded process and the prices will be moved down ever so gradually over the coming years to try and minimise the negative impact this pseudo competition has on Telkom.
The public will continue to pay premium for a long time yet.
Dont expect anything from Papi either, his millions will be in the bank by then and his contract over.
