Which additional cost exactly? You pay R240 for air rental (aka ADSL access charge), then pay per GB that you use. You pay R490 installation (similar to ADSL installation). So the only difference is the phone line?
DSL Levels of service: Zero to nil.
I'm not trying to be a party pooper but when is wireless actually going to work half as well as a fixed line or even half as well as advertised?
Poor reception, slow speeds, high latency and no major price difference - what's the point?
When are we going to get a >1mbps wireless technology that operates as well and as reliably as ADSL?
What about proper broadband speeds like 8mbps?
I thought WiMAX was going to be it but then the news about Telkom's WiMAX comes out and I'm not so impressed anymore.

I seriously doubt we will see Triple Play over WiMax anytime soon - local WiMax operators seem to be positioning themselves to offer 512kbits/s downlink WiMax services, and it is limited radio spectrum - with many users connecting to single base-stations, so I really don't see Triple-Play services like IPTv being available over WiMax for a very long time.
yeah sure they will, at the right price! i would love to buy a wimax card for my self to link to my other pc.
I am afraid mr Makore (and spescom for which he is responsible) is in for a very nasty surprise. He maintains that ALL PDA's and laptops will be WiMAX enabled by the end of this year... Klutz...How can a reputable entity such as Spescom allow someone to talk such nonsense?
For embedded PDA's and CPE to surface (let alone be embedded in ALL devices), the 802.16e standard needs to become commercial first. Right now the labs for certification are stil being built. The very FIRST device (nomadic CPE's and outdoor devices, with maybe some PCMCIA devices) will happen LATE this year if we are fortunate. Do not expect commercial embedded devices such as laptops to be available before next year, PDA's in 2009 only...
Careless quotes like this only cause outrage and disappoinment at a later stage.
