Atleast other companies pay part of their employees medical aid.The sad reality is that Vodacom does not pay even a cent towards employees medical aid,yet workers are forced to have a medical aid.This 90k or 6months maternity leave,they were not given out of free will but because of pressure from the union.People who have no idea what is going on in Vodacom should refrain from writing about something they know nothing of.P.SThe reason workers are on strike is for organisational rights (the right to belong to a union)13 years later.NOT UNLESS ITS VODAHELL'S MANAGEMENT STILL PLAYING DIRTY TRICKS

They have every right to belong to a union but a small, insignificant union doesn't have the same rights to recognition as those with more than 30% representation do.I beg to differ... the workers Accepted the jobs on the Terms stipulated at the interview. They were fully aware of the financial benefits when they signed the letter of employment. All companys I have worked for look at TCC value, and medical comes out of my salary.. 0% subsidised. (and yes, I am still in the telecoms industry)
As for union rights, The workers have the right to belong to any union... BUT that does not create the right for the Union to be recognised by the company.
That is the argument. ONE specific union is not recognised who represent 3% of Vodacoms workers... it doesnt make sense to me.
