Internet Connection Sharing and Neotel

What worked for me was to do the dns settings manual for each connection and add your pc with connection as a default gateway under the advanced properties of the connection.
 
you don't have to specifically manually enter the addresses of each client if you have dissabled the DHCP on the router itself. However i did the guide based on the assumption that most users would not be knowledgeable in this regard.

Setting up the host with ICS creates its own DHCP server on the host itself and so long as another DHCP doesn't assign the client an address first then the host should assign each client an address automatically.

I agree that ICS is a bit stupid in the sense that it will only provide network connectivity to clients within the 192.168.0.x range, but i can understand why they enforce this as most users are not as security conscious/knowledgable and allowing it to be shared to any ip could plague the masses with serious bandwidth theft. They should have implemented a setting to be able to define the range you wish to provide internet to though.

Another point i need to make that i forgot and will now add to the guide, is that you must not use the neoconnect manager as for some wierd and, in my opinion, stupid reason the neoconnect manager creates a whole new neotel dial-up connection every single time you open it. This obviously "undoes" all the sharing and auto-redial connection changes you make.
 
Ok so I ut get Neotel Prime at our work, stupid sentech. So as i understand it one can share the Neotel prime device over a network with ics. Regarding the Neotel Manager, I take it you must plug in the modem and just load the driver. What wil the dial-up nr be? And also will something like ccproxy also work?
 
I believe the Dovado usb router is the best choice hey and makes things much easier. Plug in your phone, and then u get a couple Ethernet ports aswell as wireless access. Im def thinking of getting one.
 
Yeah Style I looked at that, R1899 at incredible corruption. :( Was hoping to do the whole lot on one PC running xp and to load a mail server on as well. Will try first with either ICS, CCproxy or Browsegate and if all else fails ile get the Router. But still looking for clarification if this works 100% via ICS or via proxy if possible. Thanks.
 
It may just be me but ive found that internet sharing in Neoconnect Prime isnt great, with even just 1 other pc accessing the internet at the same as me ive experienced a sharp drop in my transfer rates as well as a significant increase in the time it takes to load websites. I would still say give it a shot though, perhaps other people will have more luck than i have had.

What did you use to share? Linux server, ICS, Proxy, Router etc...? Thanks for the reply. :)
 
Get Telkom's E960. Can use a standard telephone and sign up on a data bundle, only thing is line rental on telkom fixed line is higher than Neotel and the data costs are hogher as well. Asked Neotel about a similar product, they dont have one. In development!!!!:mad:
 
Setup an old machine as a Linux firewall. You wont be able to use any of the prebuilt firewalls as you need to do some manual setup to get the prime device picked correctly on the USB.

If you want to go this route I can go dig up the relevant instructions for you.

Windows ICS is the pits.
 
:) Cool sweet, thanks for all the advice and tips so far. The Linux setup sounds real nice, but I must learn how to use Linux properly, dont know it that well.

you can definately change that ip. only once you've setup ICS tho
 
Windows 7 Home Premium

Ok could someone please explain to me how to share your internet connection in windows 7?
I have a Laptop with Vista, Desktop with XP home and a Playstation. However I can share the network but no internet connection really frustrated!

Presuming Win7 is hosting the internet connection:
-Open Network and Sharing Center.
-Click Connections: Local Area Connection.
-Click Properties
-Click Properties of Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4)
-Set IP as 192.168.0.1
-Subnet leave as is: 255.255.255.0
-Default Gateway can be blank
-Manually enter Primary and Secondary DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
-Click OK or 'Validate settings upon exit'.

Setup the rest of your Local Connections as 192.168.0.2, 192.168.0.3 and so on
-Subnet leave as is: 255.255.255.0
-Default Gateway as 192.168.0.1
-Primary and Seconday DNS as 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

For your Playstation, you would need a dynamic setup or use a network disc or a game that has an internet function. Maybe someone else can offer more input on that.

I have had a few hiccups when sharing with Win7 > XP & Linux but were firewall related so just added the necessary exceptions.
